:laugh2: you always act like because a player was cut they're useless. he could help the young guys(scandrick,Jenkins, ball) in the film room, technique, etc. it's not like he's signing a 5 year 50 million dollar contract.

so why wouldnt New Orleans keep him then to "help the young guys"?

They kept a guy who'd been out of football 2yrs or so over him.

cause they still have Darren Sharper. like i said it will be a small contract that will add a veteran and depth. it's not gonna hurt us so why not?

I doubt they worked him out with any real intention of signing him.

As someone else said in this thread, I dont thnik its coincidence that two players tied to the Saints worked out this week.

So? their safeties and lb's have alot of picks, not their CB's...and they've had alot of guys injured at CB too

They rank towards the bottom of the league in total defense and yards allowed...people have been moving the ball on them on the ground and through the air.

... and not getting it in the end zone. The Saints lead the league in red zone defense. Couple that with the fact that the Cowboys are strong in yardage, yet struggle scoring. That relates to failure in the red zone. It's not in the drive, it's how you finish that counts.

When you guys get a minute in between arguing, you might want to check out what the Saints fan said in this very thread:

The Saints cut him because he had no explosiveness. He was healthy, per se, but got used. It was a two week experiment that went bad.

This Guido has no credibility.

Of course he's going to say he was awful.

No, that wasn't my take. Payton was asked why McAlister was released and he said that he lacked the explosiveness to fit in the defense. McAlister made some good plays against the Patriots, but they were going underneath the coverage. He fit the need for that one game. Beyond that he simply could not extend.

and use a different strategy against the Saints.

I'd come out with a nickel defense as the base defense, and play it as much as possible. I'd line up only one ILB ( either Brady or Brookings ) at a time and I'd invite the Saints to try to run the ball down our throats. Rotate Brady and Brookins every series to keep them fresh.

I believe that if the Saints don't throw the ball down field, they get desperate. I saw it against Washington. They can run the ball, but they don't want to do that. They want to Arena football the game, which is Sean Peyton's style and Bree's preference. I'd frustrate the hell out of them by dropping 2 deep safeties to prevent the big play, replace either Brady or Brooking with a DB, and have that DB assigned to Reggie Bush. If Reggie Bush is not on the field, then have him patrol the underneath territory, helping either OLB with the TE, or another DB with the slot receiver.

this!!!

please!!!

McCallister wouldn't be so bad...veteran depth can be good.

could it also be a signal to Scandrick to tighten up his game?

CB McAlister Among Five Workouts
Posted by nickeatman at 12/17/2009 1:59 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com

The Cowboys took a closer look at five players here at Valley Ranch on Friday. While four of the names are relatively unknown commodities, one of them is three-time Pro Bowl cornerback.

The Cowboys worked out Chris McAlister, who was released by the Saints about a week ago. McAlister, a long-time Ravens standout, was picked up by New Orleans a month ago and played two games with Saints. McAlister had just four tackles with a forced fumble that he recovered in overtime against Washington two weeks ago.

McAlister has played 11 seasons in the league, including his first 10 with the Ravens, where he was a perennial All-Pro selection and three-time Pro Bowler (2003, 2004 and 2006).

While one club source said McAlister looked sharp in the workout, it doesn’t appear the Cowboys are ready to sign him just yet. It’s usually one of those situations where they want to know what they’re dealing with, if or when an opportunity arises for them to get a cornerback.

The other workout players include RB Herb Donaldson, defensive tackle Henry Smith, linebacker Leon Williams and offensive lineman Cliff Louis. Most of those players are eligible for the practice squad, where the Cowboys do have one open spot after running back Chauncey Washington signed with the Jets this week.

That would make Donaldson, who played collegiately at Western Illinois and also spent some time with the Saints this season, a logical choice to fill the practice squad vacancy.

Can any of them kick?

Good thing this is Thursday then.

I am greedy for McAllister to sign. I admit it.

This surprises me, Hos. Is it your personal connection with him? Because I can't believe the Saints let him go if they think he can still cut it physically. And with Hamlin back, we've got Ball who's played well and needs experience available again.

I'm convinced McAllister is a. done and b. would be a progress stopper if I'm wrong about a.

If he did so well, he'd still be there. He was with the Saints for a few weeks and had to get in football shape even to play against New England (he was inactive for the Tampa game). Both he and McKenzie did horribly against Washington.

Honestly, no. Asking him to come in with three days work would be more of a liability than anything else.
LOL Okay Spags. I still don't see anything wrong with bringing in a vet.

LOL, Did I make the cut? Do I get to hold a little yellow sign and cry with my teeny bop friends on American Idol? LOL

Seriously, I see where everyone is coming from, but, I think he could still be an asset here, even for a little bit. If he doesn't sign, that is fine too. I still would like to see more Bell out there and a hell of a lot less of Scanny.

The Saints fan is probably right. CMac hasn't been the same the last few years and has had knee issues. I doubt he is worth it. Stick with the young pups unless the injury bug strikes.

There is not a thing wrong with bringing in a vet. But how about we concentrate on one who might be in football shape? Read up a little about McAlister's time in New Orleans and you might realize how poorly he performed, especially against Washington.

I am glad the coaching staff does not feel the same way about Scandrick as people do in this thread.
