It's nice to hear some news about potential options for wr. Just yesterday we were told we didn't need any.;)

How many would be butt hurt if they signed Jackson? Judging by the reaction in this thread, there might be a butt hurt revolution at the gates of VR.

Big difference between signing a guy off the street and using a draft pick on one.

1. Florida wide receiver Chad Jackson was the biggest winner at the combine. He ran the best time, a 4.32. Jackson caught 88 passes last season for Florida, but his receiving yardage average was below 10, usually a sign of a possession receiver. That's clearly not the case with his blistering time at Indianapolis. He's fast. He's big. He's now going to challenge Santonio Holmes of Ohio State and Sinorice Moss for consideration in the later portion of the first round. Holmes didn't run and might jump well ahead of the pack at his Ohio State workout. But Jackson has the physical dimensions and the speed teams are seeking.

Chad Jackson Grade: 4.34
Position: WR
Class: Jr
School: Florida
Conference: Southeastern
Ht., Wt.: 6-1, 213
40 Time: 4.35
Selected by: New England Patriots
Round 2, pick 4 (36 overall) Grading System

BIO: Moved into a full-time starting position last season, producing career-best numbers of 88/900/9 and winning All-Conference honors. Started three games as a sophomore, posting 29/648/6.

POSITIVES: Athletic receiver slowly developing a complete game. Uses his frame to shield away opponents, adjusts to the errant throw and extends to make the reception away from his frame. Sturdy receiver who gets airborne and pulls the pass from a crowd or takes a pounding then holds onto the ball. Has the speed to beat defenders down the sidelines.

NEGATIVES: Must improve his route-running skills. Gets marginal results blocking.

ANALYSIS: A terrific prospect with an ever-improving game, Jackson showed signs of dominance as a junior then went on to have an outstanding combine. Moved himself into the first 30 selections and could develop into a No. 1 receiver at the next level.

I was big on him coming out of that draft. Surprised he never did anything. But I doubt he's worth anything at all if the Patriots couldn't even work with him. I can't recall them ever releasing a player and him playing better on another team.

Same here. I never watched him at Florida, but I remember thinking that he caught the ball well in drills at the combine.

But surely he's either not very smart or had a poor work ethic or something along those lines for the Hoody to give up on him.

It doesn't hurt to look, though.

If I remember his Wonderlic was really low.

Still, you don't exactly have to be a rocket scientist to learn our offense. Heck, even Roy Williams understands about 70% of his route adjustments after 2 years.

Well, you'd like to think he could give us more than Sam Hurd, albeit not on special teams.

Can't hurt to look at a guy. Although I doubt it amounts to much.

On a side note...Ice Station Zebra is on TCM and Where eagles dare is on after it.:D

I love how people get all worked up by signings like this.

Who cares? What do we have to lose? I'm sure no one gave two ****s when we signed Austin either and very few thought Ogletree would be worth the time.

Gosh, give the guy a chance. It's not costing you anything.
I know right. It's not like we are expecting him to come in solve our WR needs for the next 8 years. We're just looking to add explosiveness to the offense. If he can stretch the field and take a few DB's with him along the way and gives a spark on offense, then he should be welcome. It certainly won't hurt to see what the kid can do.

Eh. It isn't going to hurt us to see what he can do.

you got that right you never leave a stone unturned, i think this move also means volumes to roy williams, he had better get it in gear.

with chad jackson and titus ryan 2 speed burners, roy williams had better really work, study hard, and work on his hands, etc.

He sucks. Another Florida WR bust. I almost wanted the Cowboys to take a look at him in the 2006 draft but in the end I'm glad we didn't.

I was shocked that he fell apart so badly. Liked him in that Draft. Not really sure he is what we need. Am willing to see if he has the mustard. Low risk, potential high reward.

I thought we weren't looking for WRs though. ;)

Chad Jackson
BMW
Roy Williams

He was a top 3 WR in a weak 2006 draft class.
in 2006 (rookie year) he was hurt in preseason (quad injury), missing the entire preseason, then had a poor season... no surprise there as it is very important for a WR to get in sync with his QB during the preseason - especially a rookie. Then he tore his ACL in the postseason, which completely killed his chance to be productive in 2007.
He ran some kick returns for the Broncos, but nothing spectacular.
Why not bring this guy in for a look. Some down time will have given his knee/quad time to recover... could be a case of good talent that was derailed by injury, then not given a chance to get back in the game (a la Mark Colombo).

I'm interested.

It is still somewhat disconcerting that the Patriots gave up on him that quickly after making him a high 2nd round draft pick. They basically gave him one season. I'm assuming he must have been doing something in the offseason in 2008 that pissed off the FO for them to release him.

If coach Sherman can resurrect him he will establish himself as the premier WR coach in football.

I wonder what he would say about Roy if he didn't have to censor himself.
