How about we suck and draft a qb top 5. Why isn’t that a plan?
If I was an owner and wanted to hedge my bet on getting a top 5 pick these are the steps I would take

1.intentionally ignore free agency and spend only what is necessary, like 15 million,
2. Let key players play out their last contract seasons without resigning them
3. Hire coaches and players to almost all 1 year contracts
4. Have a lame duck QB and HC
5. Bring back familiar players and coaches that won't question the process.
6. And most importantly keep repeating to the media that this is an all in season

Does anybody here know of an owner that is currently doing all of these things?

The "plan" is obvious and would be the same for any team in a like position. Options are draft and/or sign the best choice of the FA's available. Of course this comes with the understanding that the team likely takes a step backwards, but it that really such a bad thing? Ultimately you need to find your future in the draft and yes, there is no guarantee, but it is really the only viable plan. No matter who I had as a starter I'd be taking a flyer on lower round QB every year

Taking a step back while resetting the core is much more preferable than being stuck in the loop of easy out in the playoffs.

Kansas City and the 49's both had a Dak as QB1. Didn't stop them from churning the position through the draft and it payed immediate dividends. Seattle ditched their SB winning, 3rd round draft pick for a journeyman FA and improved on their previous season.

This "what's the plan" talk just seems like a smoke screen born of weakness. There is no rock solid plan that guarantees success. Only two options to replace the position, which you keep leaning on until you land the guy.

This is why I'm not sure many fans realize we will more than likely struggle with a couple of years ( or more) than not.
we could go into qb hell like the Bears, Dolphins, Raiders and others that have been searching for their guy for 20 plus years. It aint easy and IMO, when you got a top 8 guy, you keep him. Ive not been a Dak fanboy, but he played damn well last year. Yea, he stunk in the playoffs, but so did our defense. And yet everyone was still in love with Dan quinn.

Chances are even he’s a bust so we could see the Cowboys struggle for years like we’ve seen with so many team drafting QB’s.
+1....I was trying to be positive (lol) you are right, w/o Dak, we could struggle for years trying to find the next franchise QB. It's easy to get caught up in the success other teams have had with young QBs but there are a bunch of factors that have to go right.......Head Coaching, Offensive Coor, Oline, Defense, and avoiding injuries to key players, just to name few. Good example.....Purdy looked lost w/o Debo a couple of games last season.

Like that’s going to guarantee success? I could provide a long list of teams that have sucked, earning themselves a top 5 QB only to continue to suck. More top 5 QBs go bust than develop into franchise QBs. Planning to suck just so you can draft a top 5 QB is a ridiculous plan,

Lance, sign a vet, draft his replacement? Whatever option you choose, I think all can agree getting into the playoffs could be a struggle for the next year or two...that's the trade-off.

Well majority of out fans font want to pay him, so I'm sure the fans have a plan and got it figured out at least! Thank God!!

That's what kinda crazy.......everyone, even his hardest critics can't deny he played at an ALl-Pro level during the regular season just can't get it together in the playoffs. Reminds me of when the Bucs fired Tony Dungy not coz he couldn't get them to the post-season but had trouble winning playoff games. Hell, I understand the frustration with Dak, I am too but don't expect damn near automatic playoff participation w/o him.

Nobody said anything about guaranteeing success. You can’t guarantee success no matter what your plan is.

Yeah; it’s a ridiculous plan. Tell me a better plan then.

It isn’t worth tanking a season for a top 5 QB. We saw several go in the top 10 in April and the odds are most of them won’t pan out. Carolina got worse after drafting Bryce Young with the first overall pick.

So you recommend signing dak to an extension?

Your plan is even more dumb. Good to know

1. If we make the playoffs and somehow go far finally, Dak's price soars through the roof
2. Replacing a franchise QB has been done before, I don't get the thinking that we can't find another QB to come in and throw for this team. Will it take time, learning etc, YES no duh!
1. Won't happen with Dak, lol
2. I'll Qb, lol

He is first and foremost a DakDavidian and of course, he does as its Dak or bust for these guys.
12 wins is all we hear these days against mostly sub-.500 teams at the time we played them and then BOOM we get the Deer in the Headlight show in the playoffs and we are home on the coach for the rest of the playoffs.
Be patient as when Dak leaves us, most of these guys will follow him to his new team where they will once again enjoy the finest Deer hunting around!!! :muttley:
