Bay Area radio can be weak in terms of sports (I gotta get satellite, I guess)...Especially on the drive into work.

I caught a little bit of Cowherd (Who I really don't enjoy listening to, tbh) since I heard a blurb about a segment on the Cowboys.

Said he had a chat with a College coach or NFL personnel person last night and the subject of the Cowboys came up...Made a few interesting points.

Said that Parcells' departure marked a marked decline that doesn't jump out at you straight away.

1. That before Parcells' arrival, there was 1 Cowboy pro bowler....When he left, 10...Points out that now, that number is back down to a precious few again.

2. That it wasn't simply Parcells leaving but the brain drain that accompanied him...Taking Sparano (OL coach at the time), for one, with him resulted in a gradual decline in the protection of Romo & the running game.

3. Losing Todd Bowles saw a decline in the secondary in Dallas at the same time that the Dolphins saw their secondary improve.

4. Losing other coaches like Kacy Rodgers and Pasqualoni

5. That losing Jeff Ireland was doubly damaging...Since Ireland has been drafting for the Dolphins, he has made great use of the draft with key starters ...Also pointed out that perhaps with Ireland still in the fold, Jerry never sells the farm in the trade for RW.

The point being that it wasn't simply a Wade problem in Dallas but that the full compliment of brains running the show aren't up to snuff either.

This is not news in any shape, form or fashion, IMO.

'Brains' is singular in this organization.

I hated it when Ireland left. I thought he was a huge asset.

I was in a tiny minority who felt that way. Even Jerry thought he was disposable.

How I wish Jerry would retire. ~sigh~

That sounds about right. I know I am going to get flamed for this but, I wanted Parcells to stay.

I think the team misses his discipline. I know he failed to win a playoff game here also, but just

think of the shape we were in before he got here. I think if he stayed another season or two,

we could of gotten over that playoff drought.

From 2005-2007

Jeff Ireland drafted the likes of Bobby Carpenter, Jason Hatcher, James Marten, Marcus Spears, Isiah Stanback, and Skyler Green all in the first four rounds.

The 2005 draft was a home run, Spears aside, but other than that he was no great shakes. The 2006 and 2007 drafts are pretty much lost ones.

This is NOT true.

I agree. But there's nothing you can do about coaches and players finding better situations for themselves. That being said, the Dolphins are not anywhere close to where the Cowboys were in Parcells second year.

Ireland seems to be a good GM thus far for the Dolphins, but I can't complain about the draft picks that Tom Ciskowski has made the last couple of years.

There's plenty of complaining to be done about this last special teams fiesta.

It's kind of a catch 22. Parcells was gifted at getting the right people in the right place, unfortunately, he didn't seem to know how to really use them. It seemed the game plans were seriously watered down and tight. I felt like I was constantly waiting to see what these great players can really do and only very rarely I get that opportunity. He didn't seem to ever want to let them let it rip.

It's pretty clear now that the players are too dumb and undisciplined to do anything aside from play watered down football.

I'm not the biggest fan of our Coaching staff, but 2 I DON"T have a problem with is Hudson Houck and Dave Campo, I might still be living in 1994, but these 2 have proven they know what they're doing in the position they're in now.

I agree,,, Parcells' talent is in taking a "D" grade team and turning it into a "B" grade team. He couldn't get the Cowboys over the hump and I don't know if he can with the Dolphins. The key to any head coach's success is having at least one top-notch coordinator, preferably one that specializes on the side of the ball opposite of what he specializes in. Wade is stuck with a "coordinator-in-training",,, I think eventually Garrett will be top-notch but right now he makes too many mistakes.

It would annoy me to see this team get a slight lead only to go ultra conservative.Being somewhat aggressive got you the lead, stick with it.Seemed like everytime they went with that approach they would wind up losing at the end.Parcells football still has a place, but in todays game if your not up by two or three scores you are asking for trouble.

The last point is garbage.

Others have merit.

Exactly. '08 was one of our best drafts in a long time.

Wait,.. let me see if i understand this correctly, the reason we're not playing well right now is cause we lost the people responsible for amongst other things drafting the likes of Barbie Carpenter and Skyler Green and god knows how many more we've all repressed the memories of?

our drafts certainly haven't gotten any worse since losing Ireland whether or not they've gotten better remains to be seen

Sounds like his source is in the Dolphins organization.

Did we have 10 pro bowlers in 2006? Or is he thinking of '07 when guys like Hamlin and Bigg made it? You know, guys who weren't here when Bill was?

We only have to win one more game this year for this "disaster" of a year to equal what Bill did his last two years here.

Meh, Cowherd is a bag of no-nothing who has always been on Parcells' jock for the same reason he loves the Lakers and USC and the Yankees -- because they are proven big names. Heck, he even admits he doesn't analyze much, but just goes with the superficial. *awaits wileedog's attack of this post*
