I caught a little bit of Cowherd (Who I really don't enjoy listening to, tbh) since I heard a blurb about a segment on the Cowboys.
Said he had a chat with a College coach or NFL personnel person last night and the subject of the Cowboys came up...Made a few interesting points.
Said that Parcells' departure marked a marked decline that doesn't jump out at you straight away.
1. That before Parcells' arrival, there was 1 Cowboy pro bowler....When he left, 10...Points out that now, that number is back down to a precious few again.
2. That it wasn't simply Parcells leaving but the brain drain that accompanied him...Taking Sparano (OL coach at the time), for one, with him resulted in a gradual decline in the protection of Romo & the running game.
3. Losing Todd Bowles saw a decline in the secondary in Dallas at the same time that the Dolphins saw their secondary improve.
4. Losing other coaches like Kacy Rodgers and Pasqualoni
5. That losing Jeff Ireland was doubly damaging...Since Ireland has been drafting for the Dolphins, he has made great use of the draft with key starters ...Also pointed out that perhaps with Ireland still in the fold, Jerry never sells the farm in the trade for RW.
The point being that it wasn't simply a Wade problem in Dallas but that the full compliment of brains running the show aren't up to snuff either.
Pro Bowl players, I really don't take too much stock in it that. When your team wins, you get a lot of PB players..In 07 we sent 13 players to the pro bowl, the pro bowl is so biased and not a true indicator of talent.
Losing Bowles, Pasqualoni and Rodgers, it might be a point, but I don;t really remember that we had that great of defense when BP was here.
I do believe we lost a good scout director in Ireland. But its not like we are currently drafting a bunch of duds. Remember Parcels drafted Jacob Rodgers, Stephen Peterman and Rob Petitti and of course everyones favorite whipping boy first round choice Bobby Carpenter.
