Did Cowherd just say "His GREAT offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, is gone"? :omg:

:lmao:
Only teams in recent years to put up more points than Dak and Moore are Mahomes and Reid, so you know something had to be working there. McCarthy has already said he is willing to score fewer points if it means better ball security and a better rested defense due to a TOP advantage. Dak can't win the perception game in that scenario -- we win and he was a bus driver and if we lose than he sucks and McCarthy is worst and the board will lament that Moore was actually pretty good especially when we look at Herbert's numbers next year.

The old Parcells point...dominating time on the clock.

That's just it. We had an efficient offense all through the regular season. So what happened?
Well, one, we couldn't match our offensive product when the post season rolled around.
Two, in the post season, smart coaches get smarter. The coaches not elite (I don't want to call them dumb because no coach is) can't adjust to take advantage of their opponent's weaknesses.
We scored more than 30 points a game in the regular season in 2021 and 2022 and, yet, we end up scoring 17 and 12 respectively against the Niners. A defense that holds a team to 23 and 19 respectively, that team - with an offense averaging 30 per game - should win, right?
And I think you pointed it out, probably unwittingly, the Cowboys had an offense that should have been in a Super Bowl or a Championship Games like the Chiefs did.
We have the talent.
We just don't have the coach.
It is my belief if we had a coach like Jimmy Johnson, Andy Reid or a younger Bill Parcells, this team would have been in the Super Bowl long time ago, and definitely a few times in the past few years.
But coaching staff and owner has been our kryptonite for years.
And for the past two years when the Super Bowl spot was ripe for the taking, our coaches and players come out flat or do something stupid.
I remember two years ago when Mike McCarthy didn't have his charges prepared. I have never seen a Cowboys team have fear in its eyes, but as the team was walking into the stadium, I swear I saw on their faces the look of fear. And even McCarthy admitted.
This year, the stars are aligned. Brady and Rodgers - perpetual thorns in our side - are gone from the NFC. No team is a super team in the NFC. We know the Eagles. We can beat them. Brock Purdy is going to return to a pumpkin.
This should be our year.
Let's see what better coaching will do - for Dak, for our offense, for our the playoffs. I'm not really worried about the defense. It's the offense that needs to get its act together. Moore is gone. Let's see what happens.

QB's who "got over the hump" to help win a Super Bowl

Jim Plunkett 10th season
Doug Williams 7th season
Trent Dilfer 7th season
Drew Brees 8th season
Brad Johnson 9th season
Matthew Stafford 13th season

Does this list of counter examples make it a little less ridiculous?

Not really… pretty much all of those examples, with the exception of Matt Stafford, were during an era when it was still possible to have a dominant defense. I’m not saying all of those examples did, but two of them were all-world defenses (Dilfer and Johnson). Even the Raiders D led the league in turnovers for Plunket, and Stafford spent his first dozen years with an inept franchise…so that example doesn’t count

It’s now an era when offenses rule. I think it is kind of sad, but defenses don’t really win championships anymore.

In the NFC, the third and fourth best quarterbacks are Prescott and then Cousins. Even Mathew Stafford is top six QB currently.

As far as Stafford, that depends on his health. If he is fully healthy, then he is much better than 6th. Prescott and Cousins are pretty much interchangeable. And I’m not sure why we’re only talking about the NFC. To win at all, you also have to be better than the other guy in the AFC.

Don't even know what the base level of your own disapproval rests? Getting back to the NFC Championship game...which should be determined when and where Dallas plays Philadelphia in the playoffs.

Here and now, the strength of Dallas and with Prescott places them at number two because they do still play in the NFC and that determines the predictability in playing that path to the Super Bowl.

Here and now, those odds, with or without further developments, look very strong, because it is determined by play in that same NFC!

Isn't that the same formula the Cowboys are going to use, a dominant defense?

Every QB will have different requirements for "getting over the hump" depending on their offensive teammates, the defense, the coaching, injuries, etc.

Somebody had to score for that Ravens team, they didn't shut out every single team.At the very least somebody had to be smart enough not to screw it up.

The thing they all had in common was winning a championship after several seasons. Isn't that what we are talking about?

It's been 25 years and the one constant is Jerry. IMO, the root of the problem is that Jerry still believes he can buy the best team as if the salary cap didn't exist. We have gotten a lot of top-tier players over the years, but they can't all be HOFers and those guys are usually below average guys. This is compounded by the fact that Jerry goes for these high-risk reward players, whether it is injury or off-field challenges believing he needs the top talent to win. We also overpay guys that shouldn't be paid at all. So we come out the first few weeks and look the like the best team in the NFL, and then injuries and off-field stuff start to take players away. How many times have our backups been guys who probably shouldn't even be in the league let alone one play away from having to hold things together? It happens every year.

San Francisco had a great defense. Game was over when Pollard went down because after that you just have to double cover Cee Dee and we didn't have any other option, and Zeke took up a lot of cap space to be a non-factor for a long time which is what Jerry does. Crazy part is that Jerry probably made money by signing Zeke to that crazy contract but it didn't help win.

They held three playoff opponents to single digits and allowed 10 to the other one - that's 5.8 ppg over 4 playoff games.

I'll go out on a limb...if the Cowboys defense holds opponents to 5.8 ppg in the playoffs - like those 2000 Ravens - then Dallas will win the SB.

But if that's what it takes to win it, is it really about the QB? Or is he just the beneficiary of being surrounded by greatness?

In this era, no team is going to do what the 2000 Ravens did. The rules heavily favor offense, and the team with the better QB.

Once again, where are your links to support your rhetoric?

Here is a link proving you wrong yet again concerning Defense end-of-season rankings. The Chiefs Defense ranked #11, one spot better than the Cowboys Defense.

https://www.covers.com/Sport/football/nfl/statistics/team-defense/2022-2023
The Chiefs allowed the most TD passes in the NFL, and more points than the Cowboys. You've refuted neither of those things because you can't. Instead, you grasp for some link placing the Chiefs defense one spot ahead of the Cowboys, by whatever measure.

Well, you got me. Covers says the Chiefs were one spot better than the Cowboys on defense. Clearly, that explains why KC won another Super Bowl while Dak's 12 points Cowboys limped home after the divisional round, again.

Do you actually believe what you're posting, or are you desperately trying to "win" an internet argument - that ends the same way no matter how you spin it. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl, and Dak got outdueled by Mr. Irrelevant in the divisional round.

Another season, another set of excuses. When does it end?

All you do is make up bunk and trash this team, its franchise QB and supportive fans, while propping up other teams and their players. Why? Because you're tired of the 28+ plus years of a SB drought? If so, why continue to follow this team and watch their games?

The Chiefs were loaded. The Cowboys were not. Even some of the best minds in the NFL have said as much. The Chiefs were ranked #8 as the most stacked/talented team before the 2022 regular season started. The Cowboys were ranked #16. It's not even arguable.

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-roster...hs-weaknesses-x-factors-every-starting-lineup

Then to finish the 2022 season, the Chiefs are now ranked with the #1 team roster and with very good depth all around to start the 2023 season. Meanwhile, the Cowboys made a big jump from #16 to #6 due to key veteran picks in free agency and another solid draft. Regardless, they still are seen as having a lesser talented team than the Chiefs. The stats have proven as much once again.

Sadly, there will likely never be truly dominant defenses anymore. The Bucs and Ravens were among the all-time best on D. They only allowed 12 and 10 pts per game respectively. That is insane. The Cowboys were a top D last year and still allowed 20. The game and rules have been trending to favor the offense more and more.
