I mean if he's healthy and he's progressing still, he will earn it...

I am a fan of Crawford but I am not a big fan of the deal. I never liked the early signings when a player still has a year or two on his deal, UNLESS it is a deal in our favor (Beasley, Scandrick and Free the first time). If the deal averaged closer to $7 million a year I would be more for it but $9 million is a little high.
Having said all that, I am a huge fan as long as we can keep this line completely together for the next 5-7 years (Smith, Frederick, Martin and Collins). Will there be enough $ to keep them here and possibly resign Hardy this offseason?

Holy Crap that is a lot of money for a guy who is above average and has one year of player being above average.

Letting Murray walk has allowed our FO to do so many more great things... locking up TC for five more years is just one of them. Good job!
Yes. Exactly. Murray's sacrifice was for the whole team.
The cap is an entirely different, yet synergistic entity from the team as a whole...

Hail Quetzalcoatl! May the feathered God foster in more talent at the expense of overpaid veterans for years to come!

Awesome news, I really hope the deal is heavily backloaded though, but with 25.7 million guaranteed, it basically can't be that backloaded.

I'm guessing it is 25.7 million for the first 3 years.

It's basically bottom of the top 10 in DT money.

It's interesting because if he holds out it probably guarantees a hold out, but if he doesn't he will probably be overpaid.

If you wait and he becomes a pro-bowl type player you will be paying through the nose.
Cowboys trust his work ethic and he obviously has physical gifts, so the downside would be minimal. Very good signing.

what does this mean exactly?

I'm guessing that the additional 8.3m is only guaranteed for injury, not performance, meaning that if they were to cut him at some point they wouldn't owe that money.

This means that the FO can focus on Hardy next offseason, Crawford is a player that if he stays heathy could be a pro bowl player.

I'm willing to bet that you're wrong bud.
I don't know if they can designate money in those regards in an NFL contract.
