I am a fan of Crawford but I am not a big fan of the deal. I never liked the early signings when a player still has a year or two on his deal, UNLESS it is a deal in our favor (Beasley, Scandrick and Free the first time). If the deal averaged closer to $7 million a year I would be more for it but $9 million is a little high.
Having said all that, I am a huge fan as long as we can keep this line completely together for the next 5-7 years (Smith, Frederick, Martin and Collins). Will there be enough $ to keep them here and possibly resign Hardy this offseason?

I love the gamble. Seems like a safe one as well.

Now go sign Corey White for a few years.

This means that the FO can focus on Hardy next offseason, Crawford is a player that if he stays heathy could be a pro bowl player.
Hardy returns to form...

Sign him!!!!!!
Sacrifice players and young children to do it!

I will gladly give up my own (I don't have kids, only dogs right now)!

Wave after wave of QB pressure! YES.

I'm willing to bet that you're wrong bud.
I don't know if they can designate money in those regards in an NFL contract.

They definitely can, I've heard of that type of contract language being included for many players.

I have never seen a forum so giddy over extending an average player like this.N oone outside of the Cowboy fan base even talks about Crawford as a top defensive lineman. You are extending him on the hopes he becomes worthy of a bigger contract. I would have let him play out his rookie contract.

You obviously haven't been on any team's forum for longer than a single offseason then brother.
You may needs to gets youselfs off the interwebs until you can exercise proper expectations of an online fanbase in this days and ages.

Well, it's what they do. It all started when Crawford was the only legitimate prospect we had. Our DL was crap. He had potential so he quickly became a future pro bowler.

He's been a decent player. I think he's still an emerging player. I don't think we've seen his best. Now whether he'll be worth that contract, I don't know. I would not have signed him right now but I can't say this is a definite mistake.

Average? Guess 80% of the league is below average then. PFF ranked his play highly last year. Plenty of pundits have him pegged as their breakout candidates. Then of course there are those of us that watched him grow into the 3T position and improve every game before our very own eyes.

You should try harder on your qualitative generalizations.

Yet we couldn't afford Murray lol. It's a little bit high but it is what it is.

They were never going to pay Murray, people really need to let this Murray thing go because RBs are still a dime a dozen in this league. Outside of AD, McCoy & Lynch i don't know who would require a big time contract.

If Lawrence and Gregory both develop this year , Hardy won't be signed to anything more than a 2-3 year deal.

i am glad that the cowboys have signed one of there good young players to a good contract. if he puts up similar numbers and plays like he did last year he probably gets at least ten million more guarantee money with way defensive tackles are getting on the open market.
