As I said earlier, Collins will be our starting 3-tech. really soon if not now. He's # 311, and is playing himself into form after being injured and no training camp. Why Crawford has been playing at # 285 inside is crazy. Thought he would have beefed up this off season during his rehab. But has not. We don't know what Marinelli has told him about his weight but whatever it is, its not working. Thornton is the backup 1-tech to McClain, and unless he starts playing better - he will remain the backup.

He still got beat up a bit last week but I liked Collins' hustle.

Collins is getting better and in better playing shape, probably our new 3 tech, he has the skill set.

Crawford is giving us little inside and at least got a sack at DE, I agree keep Tyrone there and see how he performs.

Should we move to Tyrone Crawford to DE? We played him there in the second half against Washington and he played pretty well including that sack where he just completely abused the RT. On top of that here's an interesting tweet he said after the game.

That would put the best DL men on the field. Would allow Thornton to ay along side McClain. Our DE right now look really really bad

You could go big and play McClain and Thornton at the DT positions. Tough to run against that. Or you could go small and play Irving and Collins inside. Might get some inside pressure with that duo. Overall, I think Irving is a much better DT. He was a play maker as a rookie on the inside. Hasn't done much on the outside. And Collins appears to be built to play inside.

Here is what we have - based on the DC website
DT's - Collins is our biggest guy at # 311, Thornton # 309, McClain # 302, Crawford # 285, and Irving as a DE/DT # 273. They are going up against OLmen that are usually always 310+ ( We have Chaz Green at # 300, everyone else is in the #318 - #321 range)
# 285 is just too small to play DT - in my opinion.
DE's - J.Crawford has good size at # 288, Irving DE/DT #273, Tapper # 271 if he can play, Lawrence # 265, Mayowa # 240 and Davis # 260.
We have on the PC Moore # 290 and C.McClain # 236.
With Gregory # 245 being a write off this year.
Did not look at LB'ers but they all look undersized as well, when you think off the top of my head that McClain was # 260 and I think Hitchens is like # 235.

from what I have seen. Collins and Thornton are both 3T's. McClain is the only 1T Dallas actually has, and he could be upgraded. Irving should play the 3T on obvious passing downs, and Crawford- 2 down strong side DE I guess.

Just a very weak defensive front, IMO.

One more comment I'd like to make before moving on to other things - If the FO is going to turn their attention to the Defense in next years draft - and they should. This draft is lining up perfectly for us. Both Edge rushers and Corners seem to be the strength early on for next year. Plenty of big, strong DE's will be coming out, with 5-6 1st rounders at this stage. Garrett, Lawson, Allen, D.Walker - my pet cat, D.Barnett, Hand etc. Some will slip by then and some others will rise, but plenty of options should be available.
As a fan, I would like to think, wherever we end up drafting, there will be DE's available with say a corner in 2nd. and so on down the draft. If by next draft Smith is either ready - or not LB'er must also be a consideration.

Our entire defense looks small. But I guess that's what the system calls for. I'm used to seeing 240-255lb linebackers 255-270 lb DEs 290-330 lb DTs 190-210 corners 205-220 safeties and 200-225 lb head coach
