Crayton gets extension

Wide receiver Patrick Crayton has become the next Cowboy to agree to a contract extension.
Crayton, an unrestricted free agent, has agreed to terms on a new four-year, $14 million deal, according to a source. The deal includes a $6 million signing bonus.
Crayton said Thursday he was hoping to reach a deal by the end of the week. He defused any speculation that he might be interested in signing with Miami and reuniting with Bill Parcells.
“This is exactly where I want to be,” said Crayton, who is from DeSoto.
Crayton has produced career numbers this season while replacing the injured Terry Glenn as a starter. He has 48 catches for 689 yards and seven touchdowns.
Crayton will make $1 million in 2008, $1.5 in 2009, $2 million in 2010 and $2.5 in 2011 with a $1 million escalator. Crayton could have possibly received a bigger contract by testing free agency. But he had a strong desire to stay in his hometown area and signed now for the security in case of an injury.

Nice.

I like that it's a pretty short deal since Crayton is already 28.

If you look at the contracts Jerry & Co. have produced lately, they're pretty much in the 4-5 year range. I think only Witten's, Gurode's, and Romo's are 6 years.

I wonder what a $1 Mil dollar escalator clause is? How is it earned?

Beautiful. Great numbers, easy cap hits, and I love the hometown discount.

That's pretty inexpensive overall, very surprising given how teams splurge in the off-season.

But six million guaranteed over four years is nothing to sneeze at, to be sure.

I'm very happy Trick C is staying put.

SWEET!!!

Very friendly cap deal here guys, he only counts $1 mill in 2008 and I think right now we are projected to be around $18 mill under next years cap. This leaves us plenty of room for more extensions and to sign a free agent or two from another team.:)

I like it. Crayton gets open at clutch moments, has hands like steel claws, and brings 'tude to the team.
Whats not to like?

This is a GREAT deal for the Cowboys. They didnt overpay him at all. If anything we got a bargain.

Some stability for Romo along with Witten/TO and a sure handed vet capable of moving the chains.

Now let's draft a superstar next year, move Crayton back in the slot, and watch out. (Maybe Glenn comes back next year, then we're REALLY in a good position)
