Good news indeed. Clutch hands, the ability to get open and a toughness to block and go over the middle. He may never be more then a 2 or even a 3, but he is reliable and a true leader within the team. The fact that he is a homegrown talent makes it even sweeter.

SWEET!!!

Very friendly cap deal here guys, he only counts $1 mill in 2008 and I think right now we are projected to be around $18 mill under next years cap. This leaves us plenty of room for more extensions and to sign a free agent or two from another team.:)

Crayton will probably count over $2 Mil against the cap next year. I think the $1 Mil is just for his salary. I'm not sure how the SB pro-rate will work (spread over 5 yrs, including this year), but I'm sure Adam could help out.

Anyone know of any recent deals for similar type players? I guess the deal Welker signed for I think 18.3 /5 years is similar. I would rather have Welker, but I'm not gonna complain, Crayton is a solid player.

next up Hamlin, Flo, Keith Davis and Jacque Reeves

I'll pass on Reeves and churn the roster at CB a little but I would like to see those other 3 in that order.

Thats right, I forgot about the signing bonus. My bad.

Even at $2 mill, that would leave us $16 to play with. :)

Considering the time it takes to shape a rookie WR, and the expense of a FA, I'd say his signing at that price was a sweet deal.

We need to retain our WR core, and go after another big player in FA if Terry Glenn retires this year. It's just a matter of time before TO retires as well.

I've heard reports that Welker's deal has a pretty big off-season bonus due, meaning a renegotiation or parting of the ways.

But I've heard the same about Donte Stallworth's deal.

So, who knows?

Yeah, that looks like right around what Welker got and I agree that the Pats have the better player for similar $$$$$. That said, comparing this contract to the perception of Wes Welker BEFORE he went off this year makes it seem about right.......Also, I would agree Crayton probably could have gotten a little more on the market.

LOL...he's gonna renegotiate for what? For him to finally get open?

That wasn't a lot of money even in the old cap era.
That is what I was thinking as well. This is a good deal for the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys to sign Crayton to new deal

09:07 PM CST on Thursday, December 27, 2007

By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News IRVING -- Cowboys wide receiver Patrick Crayton is expected to sign a four-year deal worth as much as $14 million on Thursday night, according to Crayton's agent Fred Lyles.

Crayton, who took over as the No. 2 wide receiver when Terry Glenn was injured, will receive a $6 million signing bonus.

“This is exactly where I want to be,” Crayton said earlier in the day.
Crayton is a DeSoto product who has 48 catches for 689 yards with seven touchdowns, all career-highs

That's a good bit of cash for a #3 receiver. At first glance, it seems cheaper than Welker, though.

this is a good thing, I am happy for him.

It is going to be tough for 8 new players to make this roster next year.

another good thing.
