Engel and Cooperstein just had him on, and without making him sound completely malicious -- don't want it to sound like he just completely took out the hatchet -- he went off on the old coaching staff probably more than any player we've heard yet.

I'd rather the podcast be put up without trying to do too precise a recap, but he said last year that it wasn't fun to go to work anymore, that playcalling was sometimes more not to lose than to win (and he said it cost them some games) and that when you get cussed out all day every day, you start to tune coaches out. (That bit was about Todd Haley, not Parcells. But he also said attitudes trickle down from the top.)

It wasn't said that hatefully, but more matter-of-factly.

In other matters, he's been out at Valley Ranch catching passes from Tony several times a week all offseason. They tried to get him into some small talk about taking a vacation, but he said all he's done is take a few weekends off to travel. The rest of the time, he's been working.

They just said they'll put the podcast up soon. There'll definitely be stories written about this in the newspapers tomorrow.

ADMIN EDIT:
Podcast up in the daily zone...

Thanks CL.

I really can't imagine how stifling the atmosphere must have been for this many players to inicate they feel some relief.

I heard it too ChocolateLab.

What got my ears perked was when he said that the offense had some reins put on it and it actually cost them some games.

That is the same offense that averaged 27 points a game and was ranked 5th overall.

Be interesting to see how they will fare in 2007 with the reins off.

Seems that Crayton has gotten in on the Anti-Parcells time in Dallas..This team needed Parcells and his staff to be tough early on, but I do think over time it did get old to alot of the players.

Patrick Crayton sucked?

When?

He was a terrific 3rd receiver. What games were you watching?

Too much talk here -- players need to shut up, show some class, and prove it on the field. A HoF coach drafts your butt out of freaking Northwestern Oklahoma State, puts you in a position for a huge payday next year, and you slam him?

Kinda makes you wonder if this new regime will have the players making big time plays and feeling like they can be "world beaters"!

I agree. He has shown improvement each year and has shown to be the best pair of hands on the team.

Kinda makes you wonder how the players are going to react when they lose a game or two and can't blame it on BP anymore.

Witten's got some incredibly soft hands as well....

What do you mean? They can blame the scheme.

Missed the smiley at the end of his comments, huh?

All I will say is training camp can't get here soon enough. 9 days and counting...

Witten has very good hands, but Crayton's hands are superior to his, imo.

I agree. I think both Crayton and Witten do a good job of making big grabs to move the chains.

I hope I didn't overstate it with "going off" on the previous coaching staff. Like I say, he didn't sound like he was whining or really even blaming all that much, but just being matter-of-fact on the atmosphere. And some of this was on Todd Haley, who Engel said made Parcells look like "Suzy Sunshine". I'm not sure Crayton even mentioned Parcells by name in the whole interview.

BTW, Crayton just sounds like an intelligent guy who expresses himself well. Even Engel said he's a pretty thoughtful type who doesn't just pop off with emotional comments.

I'll say this Dooms, I sure don't want to lose him. He is a good young WR that Dallas got in the 7th round. He is one of those diamonds in the rough teams look for on day 2 of the draft. Dallas has flourished bigtime with this low, low draft pick.

I agree with this. I also agree the atmosphere was not something that needed to continue. The team should make this transition as well as possible.

I congratulate Jerry and Bill on their ability to part without animosity and causing more harm. I put it together as Jerry finding a way to get a new coach in here as diplomatically as can be.

Not only did Jerry get the best coach available for the Cowboys, he may have gotten a coach with the personality and talents made for them.
