I hope I didn't overstate it with "going off" on the previous coaching staff. Like I say, he didn't sound like he was whining or really even blaming all that much, but just being matter-of-fact on the atmosphere. And some of this was on Todd Haley, who Engel said made Parcells look like "Suzy Sunshine". I'm not sure Crayton even mentioned Parcells by name in the whole interview.

BTW, Crayton just sounds like an intelligent guy who expresses himself well. Even Engel said he's a pretty thoughtful type who doesn't just pop off with emotional comments.

Regardless, it would seem to me unintelligent to make comments about "atmosphere" at this point since they haven't even put pads on yet.

With all these whining about bad coaching, horrible scheme, these players better have incredible season this year, funny, not one blame themselves for any mistakes that they've made and there were plenty last season.

It would sound better if they shut their mouth and put up their career best numbers this season and talk about what were the reasons for their underachieving last season.

Oh I think A LOT of that was on Haley.

And you are right about what Jen Jen said about Crayton. I heard that too.

Half the roster can't be wrong.

I can see where people would rather the players take the 'high road', shut up, and produce, (I would too) but comments criticizing the coaching can't just be attributed to a bunch of underachievers complaining.

At some point, there has to be a measure of truth to their claims.

It just makes me all the more eager for the season to start.

towards the "last days", BP looked miserable during games, we all saw it.... everyone commented on the conservative BS defense we ran....everyone commented on how it must be a hellish atmosphere behind closed doors at The Ranch

....it's pretty much been officially confirmed by now.

like said earlier, training camp cannot get here soon enough.

you wish we still had Purcells and the old coaching staff and schemes here, don't you?

I agree. I think both Crayton and Witten do a good job of making big grabs to move the chains.

I would say that Terry Glenn has the best hands on the team. The guy makes some incredible catches every game and rarely drops anything.

By far the most underrated player on the team IMO.

LOL

It seems even more unintelligent to think these guys can't notice a change in the "atmosphere" and speak their mind. Hell even the owner talked about how the egg shells were all picked up off the carpet.

I like Glenn he adds the outside speed for the defense to be concerned over and I think he does a very good job of making catches but I still think Crayton has the best hands on the team.

Well the players are saying the same things about Parcells and the coaching staff that I and a lot of other fans have been saying all along so I know they are right.

They are comparing minicamps to an entire season -- of course everyone is in a great mood right now - they haven't had to do anything other than run around in shorts and yak to the media.

Of course you're right. What could any of these guys possibly know? They only have synapses that fire, were all fairly successful college students and team leaders, good character guys of whom many were team captains. Not to mention the fact they are actually involved in these practices, training regimens, and all the other team functions. There is no possible, plausible way for them to have a point. The owner neither.

Fools, the lot of them.

Thanks for being the voice of reason.

It doesn't matter what I wished. The fact is BP is history and WP is here and I want him to do well and players put up some amazing numbers and win NFCE.

I simply don't like whiners. If they put up great numbers and want to talk about what didn't work, fine, but until then, all they are doing is whining and placing blame on something or someone else.

How many players placed any blame on themselves?

i have to agree. being a card carrying "bp hater" myself to a lot of people i can't come out and say these players could be right cause then i'm just selling my agenda.

but to date, how many players have come out with a big WHEW!!!???

too many to blow it off as sour grapes, i would think.

in the end i wish the players *would* stop it and prove it on the field. but if asked "how do you view the changes" do you want generic "oh everything changes, it's just my job to go out and do the best i can regardless..."

what would we argue about in here then? that the player dodges the questions?

parcells did a lot of good things for the cowboys.
parcells in the end couldn't get over the "hump".
we're a lot closer because of parcells
but it was time for "his way" to move on.

not that hard to understand overall.

and attend meetings.
and talk to the coaching staff
and talk to former players for these coaches
and work out under the new coaches
and get to know them as people

when we have a management change at work (yearly it seems) we can figure out what's coming by the past history of who's coming our way now. you know who cares and you know who doesn't. we can figure out in a few days what life is gonna be like under the changes, it doesn't take a quarterly report and financial results for the year to let us know what's going on or what we thought of previous management.

some people just get too defensive of pet people.

I would have to 'agree' with your 'agreement'.

Parcells certainly left the Cowboys in better shape overall than they were when he got here - and for that we should be thankful.

And I am.

But he took this team as far as he could. His strategy and gameplans worked to a point, and that point was beneath a playoff win.

Patrick Crayton sucked?

When?

He was a terrific 3rd receiver. What games were you watching?

roll eyes icon

this was more of a shot to those that constantly complained that it was the players that underperformed that seemed to do the whinning, and that they were trying to give thmeselves exuses for sucking.

You've also had a bunch of players saying they missed his style of coaching. Romo and Ferguson jumps to mind immediately. They were more diplomatic in it, in the fact they said they can still flourish in this new system and style, but what did you expect them to say, oh yeah, we're REALLY screwed now.

Also, you don't have guys that DID perform well (besides Crayton) coming out and saying, damn Parcells! I mean, Newman didn't mind, Ware didn't seem to mind, Witten or Glenn. TO seemed to mind, but TO is TO and will say anything to keep the mic in front of his face.

Anyways, the real test would be when the first loss comes, then we'll see how effective Phillips is.
