Crayton: Will he make the team?

It is entirely possible that someone else steps up and takes that spot...I think Green has more of a spot locked up than Crayton because of ST... and if someone can be more explosive than Crayton than he may just lose that spot...

I like Crayton and think he has excellent hands...but he isn't what I would call a threat to score from anywhere on the field..We will see what happens but it could be real interesting..

Think of Crayton as Glenn's backup. Last year was Glenn's first year in a long time where he played all the games. Green is not going to step up and take Glenn's place if Terry gets hurt. Neither is Copper. In fact, Copper probably loses his spot to Green.

So we carry only four WRs?

1. Owens
2. Glenn
3. Crayton - yes, he is a lock.
4. Green - Plays special teams return units and is the fourth wideout in spread formations
5. Copper/Rector/Austin - Coverage units. Whomever shows the most outside and including that wins the fifth spot.

I don't understand what the debate is.

Even if Green doesn't show that much as a WR, I think he'll make the team as a return guy if nothing else, at least for this year anyway. Should Green develops a bad case of the drops during TC and/or the preseason games as well, then he may have "dropped" his way right off the team, but that's the only way I see Green not making the team this year. Next year, there may be higher expectations placed on Green as a WR, but I feel his return abilities will keep him on the team for at least this year.

cheers

thats the way I see it

Ahmad Merritt is 29 years old and was a rookie FA with Chicago in 2000. Jamaica Rector is an interesting possibility to supplant Copper, but Rector can also be moved to corner. A lot will be determined if some of the new additions for special teams knock down Copper's importance to the team.

wow. just wow.

That how I feel.
There are always young, unheralded guys that people are pulling for to make the team. They get varying degrees of press in the offseason, then usually get cut before the end of camp.
Crayton is one of the few unknown guys who has actually come through and produced in the last 10 years.
And make no mistake about it, Crayton can produce when the real games are being played. He gets open and his hands swallow passes. He has noticably strong hands in a league full of guys with strong hands.
Any comments from Parcells about guys taking Crayton's place are only being made to motivate Crayton.

Hard to imagine how anyone who saw him play before he got hurt could think he might get cut.
