If only he'd been a fireman.
Yeah that was even worse. I don’t care how good the prospect is, when they’re that old you’re basically losing an entire contract length of tenure. Why ever pick them over similarly rated players?

I think his current team just made him the highest paid center in his team’s history. We took the rapper who did zero. That miss still pisses me off.

What are some of the ones that really piss you guys off? Taco vs TJ watt is another one that really chaps my, well, you know.
Right? I remember sitting there on draft night and thinking this was such an obvious pick and we just whiffed. I was so pissed bc I knew the Kentucky cb was nothing. He was a typical workout warrior who just never showed that on the field. Creed was a no brainer.

There has been a lot over the years. But the thing most forget is every team does that not just the Cowboys.

Every team in the league is kicking themselves for passing on Tom Brady several times.

Specifically for the Cowboys, it's hard to believe that passing on Randy Moss isn't #1 on the list.
Thank you

Missing on Creed was a huge mistake. Kelvin Joseph was picked instead. What a joke

Trysten Hill was dead in the water the moment you took him. Still have no idea why he was viewed a superior prospect with all his baggage than the guys who went immediately after him: Taylor Rapp, Juan Thornhill, DK Metcalf, Diontae Johnson… Dre’Mont Jones and Kalen Saunders we the next 2 DTs off the board and started a combined 33 games last season.

I’ve questioned Cowboys picks before (what was even the point of Schoonmaker? You don’t take a 25 yo, injured, blocking specialist with a second round pick)… but I’ve never outright claimed a dude is a bust waiting to happen. Hill was an easy call
Hill was all on Marinelli and his “coach them up” mindset.

We were in love with LaPorta but all the top TE’s went right before. We pushed it and went with him. Awful reach.

Although the business side of things is thoroughly unrelated to enjoyment of the game on the field... it is nice not to have center, along with Parsons, Lamb and Prescott as multiple high paying salary cap busting costs.

Lots of Monday-morning reviews and selective memories in this thread.

Yes I yelled for Watt over Taco. And that made me feel brilliant in the rear view mirror.

But I also eviscerated the selection of Frederick as 1st round center. I also at the time scorched the Parsons selection. Over time the draft embarrasses any and all...except the fans who want to pretend they always get it right.

PFF pundits recently said that the Cowboys have been ELITE in their drafts over the past four, five years. But haters gonna hate. Ignorance gonna bleed out into everything.

Claiborne over keeklee has always bothered me.

Claiborne really hurt, but all the pros saw the uniform and thought he was the next Peterson. He was consensus great.

I never saw it. And purposefully failing the Wonderlich should have been a disqualifying red flag. Showed bad attitude. And that's exactly what we saw out of him.

Glad that he did eventually get his head on straight and have a few decent years in the league before he was done.

Warren Buffetism - Don't cry over the good picks you didn't make, cry over the bad ones you do make.

Marino was the 5th QB in his draft class. There were lots of OOPS picks before him.
I was a fan of the Pittsburgh Panthers because Pittsburgh alumn, Toney Dorsett, was a Cowboy in my pre teens. I followed Dan Marino throughout his career. I was praying the Cowboys drafted him. Tex should have called me. :flagwave:

the late 90's draft were pretty bad. Actually 95-01. We got only three true quality players: Dexter Coakley, Flozell Adams and Greg Ellis
OUT OF SEVEN DRAFTS
Those who think we can easily replace a QB should realize a couple of the same guys responsible for that are still with us.

It's not about the hits/misses, it's about the stupid picks and the ignoring of positions. Kelvin/Trysten/Esco/Jaylon/Schooner were just stupid. Had failure as a high draft pick screaming from the start.

Chiefs just sent us yet another very valuable lesson. Send your greedy narcissistic WR packing and pay your DT's and C.

You’re mixing up Hill with Mazi I think. Hill was 2019 draft, Mazi in LaPorta’s

Greg Ellis was a good player. Not fair to lump him in with the garbage
He turned out to be a good player......... AFTER Parcels took over , changed the defense, and moved him to OLB at age 31. He finally recorded a double digit sack year and made his first pro bowl at age 32. He was just an average NFL DE prior to the switch. But, he will always most be remembered as the guy we drafted instead of Randy Moss. It was Jerry's biggest mistake and he even admits it. We had a big need at WR at the time, and that whiff set in motion a chain of events that the organization never recovered. ..... that period during the late 90's when the dynasty fully unraveled was just one Jerry blunder after another and culminated in 3 straight 5-11 seasons under Campo.

No I was referring to what you referenced. Hill was an awful pick pushed by Rod Marinelli. And then last season Mike and company were in love with LaPorta, and by the time we picked in the 2nd all that was left was Schoonmaker. We have a habit of forcing for need in that round. Awful picks generally outside of Diggs and Dlaw 10 years ago…..
