Yeah. There's no way.

I actually votes yes and have not counted him out once, unlike many on here. I was ecstatic when we drafted him. That by no means led me to believe we would witness these first 2 games. As excited and optimistic as I was and am I wasnt about to act like he was a certainty.

I was skeptical at first and actually more like No. But he has shown up at game time and showed us his abilities and leadership and I am beginning to believe that with a couple of years learning under Romo, he may actually have the potential to lead the Cowboys. With the help of a strong running game this could be the start of something magical. So my answer has turned into a Yes.

"Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."----Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca.

And to think that we wouldn't be having this conversation if Kellen Moore never broke his leg

Well if some established vet were to have had the same injury opening up the door for Dak, the situation would probably be about the same. But who knows. But I think Floaty is literally the only Cowboys fan who had any interest in Kellen whatsoever after last years performance.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble about Dak because I like him, but there's always the possibility he could be traded/packaged for a higher pick later on. Despite what people might predict about his health, behind this OL I see no reason why Romo couldn't play until the end of his contract. If Dak resigns and is here in 2020 great, but if he continues to impress whenever he plays, a lot of teams will want his services and Jerry will always be Jerry. Also don't forget, Romo hasn't played in as many games as other starting QB's past 35. Only Palmer comes close right now, but our OL is much better than his and we have a better stable of RB's as well. For these reasons, I think Romo probably plays until the end of his contract.

Peyton - 293
Brady - 256
Palmer - 164
Romo - 155

I think an interesting scenario with Romo a couple of years from now is that if he is banged up and on the fence about playing as a backup, he could retire and serve as a coach. Then if Dak were injured as the Starter, Romo could sign back as a player for the rest of the season.

Most NFL QBs play until they are dragged out kicking and screaming, but with Romo such an obvious fit for a coaching position you could actually see this happening .

i dont see romo getting dragged out. i think once he says hes done theres no turning back. its just the perception i have of him. he will probably be a very good coach if he wants to go that way.

What could be worth trading away our franchise QB after Romo retires? I understand teams might be willing to give up a lot for him in a year or two, but what would actually make it worth trading him? Unless a team gives us a top pick in a year with another Andrew Luck, I'm not sure it's worth it. And if that's the case, the team would draft the next Luck instead of trading for Dak. (This is assuming he appears to be the real deal and teams are willing to give up a lot for him, as your post implies.)

Dak Prescott is showing promise for the future. That's plenty enough for me. Rookie phenoms make me nervous anyway. I think Prescott has the physical tools to have a fine career in the NFL. But I hope the player isn't hurried into service and has plenty of opportunity to let his head catch up to his body. A lot of that will only come from experience. Now, if you could find a way to drop Romo's grizzled veteran brain into Dak's explosive and youthful body? ... It's alive! It's alive!

As I said upthread, if Dak or anyone else is going to be a great quarterback, he'll be pushing for the starting job by middle of the second year at the latest, and more likely by the end of this year.
