Honestly, I think these losses are needed. These guys were getting a little ahead of themselves. When Dak started appearing in all of these commercials, it kind of went against the attitude he had earlier where he was avoiding commercials because he wanted to focus on the game. The message is clear... if you don't stay focused in this league, you will get beat up.
And yes, I agree that the culture is bad. We just happen to have a great year every now and then to mask it up. Garrett knows how to create a great atmosphere in the locker room and everyone feels like they are brothers and all, but the problem is there is no accountability or fear for messing up. As soon as Switzer made that huge mistake, you could already feel the game slipping away. Switzer's right back on the field. Then, Tyrone Crawford had the ball right next to him on a fumble. If we get that fumble in the red zone, we win that game. Somehow he doesn't pull in a fumble right next to him. Dez Bryant is jogging routes at critical times in the game and ends up not being where he should be. Terrance Williams drops a ball that hits him right in his body at the end of the game. These guys have no fear of screwing up at key moments in the game.
After we lost, did Garrett even look mad or did he walk off the field with a smile? If there's no real accountability or pressure on the HC and he doesn't really apply any accountability to his players, it's no surprise that we lose against tough teams. What's really sad to me is getting beat by a team we were blowing out and the HC doesn't look mad at all. What's doubly worse is Gurley calling the team out a week before the game and saying something along the lines of they were going to beat the cowboys up and him coming in our stadium and actually doing it. Did anyone want to step up and prove him wrong? I'm sorry, but that was an utterly embarrassing performance. Other fans are laughing at us and our HC can walk out with a smile.
Another huge problem is it looks like Dak isn't progressing. He doesn't look comfortable back there and he's starting to look exactly like Romo when Romo had to try to do everything himself, aka the only time our offense is effective is when Romo took it on himself to bust out of the stale offensive system and try to create something by doing a circus play. Now, Dak is doing the same thing. That's not a coincidence. It's the sign of a stale and ineffective offense. We were just able to cover it up last year because we had so much talent on the offense. You can only get by on talent for so long before coaching comes into the equation and you have to outscheme teams.
The offense stinks unless Dak is rolling out and throwing a bomb down the field, aka Romo. I'm sorry, but that's only going to work so much. The fact that the offense is only working when your QB is scrambling around is the sign of a predictable and ineffective offensive system. When was the last time you said, 'whoa, we really outschemed that team?' The fact that we have so much talent on the offense is what masks how ineffective the offensive system is. When our players can't be more physical than the other team and execute this super basic offense, then our offense stalls. The Houston Texans just laid 57 points on the Titans with a rookie qb and much less offensive talent. Why do we rarely ever have performances when we blow teams out when we have much more talent on that offensive side of the ball?
