Curious... When division rivals play each other, who do you root for?

I root for the long-dormant eastern coastal tectonic plates to go all "Dathan and Abiram" on the stadium.

I always root for what helps us the most.

If we're up in first, and the closest team to us is two games back, then I want them to lose.

Obviously whatever helps the Cowboys most is first place.

Currently, my greatest dislike is probably for the Eagles given their recent success within the division. And yet I probably respect their organization more than most. They have great coaches and have managed their cap and drafts better than most.

My most painful moments these days are those rare ocasions when the Skins luck out and beat us simply because I have gotten so used to sweeping them and mocking them. Its hard to give that up. And its always fun to watch Snyder fail. But rest assured even if we happen to lose you can pretty safely bet the Skins will return to their blundering ways the next week or thereafter. I'm honestly surprised Gibbs hasn't been able to right that ship. Is Snyder that controlling as to wreck everything?

The Giants are interesting. I have never feared them. Ever. Even when they won SB's with Parcells, I felt we were the better team. I really can't say I hate the Giants as I really don't take them seriously even when they're good. I'll say this though. That environment in the Meadowlands is the great equalizer. Hellacious place to play.

If Washington wasn't included in this question, I could answer it; but since they are by definition associated with it, I'll have to defer. The only thing I can think about is that I've never rooted for Washington. That's too nauseating to even consider doing. As Wade Phillips won't say, "No comment".

Wouldn't the obvious choice be the team with the worse record?

I tend to consider it that way, whatever team is more of a threat to me, I want to win. Of course that backfired when I wanted the Eagles to beat the Giants as it helped us at the moment. Had the Eagles lost that game, we would have been division champs.

Nope...reality. I didn't say I expected Dallas to have 14-2 seasons regulary with no conference losses...you did.

Too many people like to take the back door approach to a championship...and it just doesn't work.

Just like life, take care of your own business, things tend to work out fine. Sit around and hope and pray for another's failure...you'll be soon to join them.

REALITY is not just saying that taking care of business alone will do the trick.

An 11-5 record with only 2 division losses is doing a damn good job of "taking care of business", but if the Eagles are 11-5 with only have one division loss then we are still in second place.

And what if the Eagles are 14-2 with no division losses ...... ? Are you going to blame that on the Cowboys "not taking care of business, or are you going to credit the Eagles with a phenominal year?

REALITY is that it takes a combination of the Cowboys success and the failures of the division rivals to come out on top .......

Whereas I agree with you, football is a competitive sport and it doesn't matter if you do well if there is another team that does better.

But I also understand his point too, you need to worry about yourself first and foremost before you worry about somebody else. But then again, as fans, our inclinations matter all of a rat's butt-hair unless we are at the game, rooting for/against whoever it is.

depends on the situation at the time, but normally will pull for the situation that most helps Dallas

I agree completely that we have to focus on ourselves first, but that wasn't the topic of the thread .......

the topic was about who you would root for in inter-division games not invovling the Cowboys ......... and if it gets to a point in the season where we need the Giants to beat the Eagles in order for Dallas to get into the playoffs then every true Dallas fan will be rooting for the Giants. Sitting around and just saying that the game doesn't matter is ridiculous, because clearly it does.

Prior to 9/11 I had a friend named Marc (49ers fan) who happens to hate ASU and Notre Dame. They were playing on the upcoming Saturday and I asked him who he was going to root for.

He said, "terrorists."

I wouldn't reply the same way after 9/11, but at the time....

How 'bout disappearing over the Bermuda Triangle ?:bounce:

I didn't say it would in every instance, I said "take care of your own business, things tend to work out fine." Look it up.

A good job...but not good enough obviously. Why is it Philly has only one division loss? Because Dallas lost to them, thereby not taking care of business well enough. If they did, Dallas would be 12-4 and Philly 10-6.

I'll say that Philly had a phenom year and Dallas didn't take care of business, obviously, because they didn't beat the Eagles at all, and, as I've ALREADY stated in my original post, if Dallas doesn't take care of their own business, it won't matter what the others do. Thanks for the example.

That's not a combination....it's a result of what I, again, already said...Dallas' success (takin' care of their business) will be why division opponents fail.

Take control of your own destiny....or wait around for a handout. Which way for you grasshopper?

I just root for the two teams playing to beat the crap out of each other so that they are both weak for their next games.
