Current cap space

The biggest mistake cap-wise was extending Martin and caving to his hold out....I was wrong. He still impacts the cap in 2026.

Dak also counts $74 million next year.

That said, we still keep Pickens in 26.
I told ya so brother. I was one of the few against resigning Zack Martin to another big contract. I knew he was finished since 2021. He fooled everyone.

Potentially saving up to extend Mazi.
It’s interesting to observe the dichotomy with fans here who love to pile on Cowboys draft picks who fail to live up to expectations but rarely do the opposite of draft picks who do.

The Cowboys are currently $10 million over the CAP for 2026, and a projected effective CAP space of -$24 million. I suspect Dallas will restructure Lamb and Tyler Smith to free up some room and we'll see what that carryover looks like. But they may need that carryover to sign some of their own players again.
Yep, the CAP Denier looks at the figure without the nuance.

The issue isnt the figure, it's;
  • the comparative amount you have available compared to the rest of the league (we are firmly in the bottom half for the next three years)....it only takes one team to have the money to out bid you....especially when that team, and im thinking Ravens and Derrick Henry have the attraction of potential success.
  • "WE CAN RESTRUCTURE $100m", well every team can restructure their CAP....well apart for the Eag's who's financial model isnt based on Salary.
As with most aspects of life, we arent in CAP HELL, but it does need a more audacious approach.

The Eagles and Lions have clearly taken a win now approach hoping to get a SB or two before they have to cut some corners. I suspect Cowboys fans would not mind this approach if it meant getting to another SB. But the time to take that approach was before they let their roster turn to garbage. If some of their recent drafts had been better they might have been in a position to go all in. There are too many holes to fill now.

Isn't there a thick irony here with people who were saying Jerry's ridiculous for dragging his feet and having some hesitation on not giving in to Martin and yet he does a lot of y'all do this you're doing it right now with the decision on Parsons because we're in some recency bias but they just extended lots of guys this year and when I look at it now isn't there some parallel now with Tyler Smith with his knee now all of a sudden this very young player probably barely hitting his prime soon has tendonitis severe tendonitis which can affect your career and it starts right after he gets paid..

So all this you should play players early it gets fans all caught up in it and a lot of times you guys are wrong I remember the heated conversations we used to have in the free agency. When everybody wanted Jamal Adams they were fighting for Eric Berry and then the what was the biggest and greatest non signing is Earl Thomas dude had severe CTE and was falling apart but everybody was telling Jerry they should do it Those all those guys were being yelled for and thank God Jerry didn't cave on that...

And we're doing it now not just with questioning the Parsons trade but we're all split on what what they should do in free agency start spending the money now bring players in now.. I think they should hold Pat and go back to the drawing board this offseason which by the way I think they had a very good offseason They signed a lot of players they brought in some solid players the draft looks good the last two seasons it it's still blossoming it's developing but they need to use that draft capital and money for 2026 because no matter what they do this year at best we might get to nine wins we might fight for a wild card we may be able to take the Eagles down but it doesn't look good i'm looking at a 2% chance at making the playoffs so if you can't make the playoffs why bother..

Now I don't want a tank That's a bad thing for a fan I want them to win every game possible and even that that means getting all your players back healthy trying to make a push by bringing in some of those free agents I mean come on people there's guys like Simmons Kendricks and Gilmore out there and maybe they can't last a full season but I bet they could do something for 9 games and their contracts are not guaranteed when you sign this late in the season you're basically a week to week player..

so what's the harm in trying to make your team better by just using budget players right now to help but we do got a lot of guys coming back but yeah wait till 2026....

I just posted in the draft zone (in the last few days) about Micah being a draft "success" for Dallas and is the best edge rusher in the game(imo) that will one day wear a gold jacket. Odd you would make this comment at me without checking to see the veracity of what you are about to post.

I stand by what I said. But you’re by far not the biggest culprit. Thanks for making the positive post. We need more of them even though times are tough right now.

Straight up, do you hunt duck and dove at the same time? Crying is out of season... :muttley:

They are mid-level drafters at this point.

Jerry overrates how well they draft. And it trickles down in that they like to think they don't need to be active in FA because they draft so well.

It's a vicious cycle of stupidity from the Jones'.

Football is in season now and correct play needs to be tagged and seen...:starspin::thumbup:

For a deer, the trail has to be followed correctly.

Micah was the last high pick that really shined for us

I don’t kill anymore. Had to much of it in the past.

Meh. I will call balls and strikes. They used to draft better than they do lately. Some posters prefer all negative or all sunshine and roses.
Mazi is a failure for a first round pick. Probably even as a 5th rounder.

It’s a sad way to live but it’s your choice and I don’t have to support it.
