We should be looking real hard at Jonas Gray, the RB from the Pats. Dude had like a 200 yard game against the Colts and was benched for oversleeping and not showing up for meetings.

Buy the dude an alarm clock and get him in here.

To compete with an underwear thief and walking hamstring injury waiting to pop.

Bring it on.

The coaches evaluate other things besides catches. Route running, route adjustments, blocking, special teams, releasing, footwork, etc. All of these can be evaluated no matter who the qb is.

That was my point. From the fans perspective, all we really get is the games and from that it was near impossible to make a play with the QB play

He is a relatively cheap starter.

That he is.

Whenever you have a group of players who are relatively similar in talent and production at the same position, you always go with the younger players. They are the ones that are cheaper and have the most upside. In this case you have players in Coleman and Bishop who are younger, cheaper and far better players no matter how much Hayden makes now.

Five DTs is heavy, especially since we will eventually be rotating ends inside on passing downs. But we kept the best talent for right now.

I figured they would go heavy on DL with the telant and depth there. Until Hardy returns, may see 2 leave instead of one. But also they could still trade one of them soon.
Also could keep the extra guy, until after the Eagles games, to keep the DL even more fresh, but doubt that is it, just thought though.

I wonder if AJ Jenkins could have been better than Street. Street knows the system and all, but I like Jenkins from what little I saw. Was hoping he'd make the Oh well.

I was hoping maybe they keep Jenkins as a 6th WR, trade one of the DL to keep him, as they would have been going long at DL until Hardy returned.

I wonder if the Cowboys will bring back Tony Hills after Week One (so his contract isn't guaranteed), and get rid of one of the DTs.

Either that, or I wonder if they have a potential trade in the works for one of those DTs.

over who?

It's not over who... it's a matter of Marinelli wanting to rotate that dline and keep them fresh, wave after wave. He finally has enough bodies with enough talent that he can do that. That is the real reason why we went heavy on the dline this year.

so, who are the seven inactives week 1? my guess is, Whitehead, Weems, Swaim, Coleman, Bishop, Russell and Brinkley.

I dont think Whitehead returns punts week 1, so we are better off activating McCray.

Just speculation, but if a tackle goes down, I think Martin kicks out, so Weems does not dress.

Smith gets the nod over Brinkley due to special teams.

Swaim, Coleman, Bishop and Russell don't play due to the depth at their position. However, I can see Coleman getting the nod over McClain

Collins
DL
DL
DL
Hanna might not be ready (injury)
Not sure how good Brinkley is on ST.
A Saftey, LB or Lucky.

Weems is the backup OT even if people don't like it. Neither Collins or Martin took a snap at OT in TC.

I don't know if Hills is really any better than Weems. I was surprised they didn't bring him to TC after the was the defacto backup OT last season when Parnell was starting.

I prefer to keep the DTs for the future. Hayden will be 30 next year. Russell might be a DE. McClain has yet to stay healthy. Jack Crawford has a lot to prove, especially in run defense in order to be a long term solution.

Bishop would be the perfect replacement for Hayden and Coleman, IMO, is more talented than Jack Crawford.

I think we look weak at WR, RB, LB and S is a question mark.

Not a bad roster though. Lots of depth at other positions

S is my biggest question mark on defense. Swing T on offense. Otherwise we look golden.

I thought they would go long on DL as trade bait for RB, OT, WR/returner, and/or DB help. I think we will have a trade before next week.

I get that Marinelli wants to rotate linemen, but you only get 46 players on game day, so if you activate a 9th d-lineman, who do you sit? JMO, 8 guys is a good rotation on game days, especially when you consider everyone except Gregory, Hayden and McClain will play either inside or outside at some point.

They aren't going into a game with no backups OT active

That was more of what I hope they do, not what I think they do considering we have guys who can play tackle in Collins and Martin. I just think we are wasting an opportunity if we aren't giving Collins game day reps.

How many years have we been saying that about safety? Sheesh.

It is pathetic.

But then again, true safeties are a dying breed in college football. There is so much variance because of how it is being coached. I just hate how the spread has killed traditional football concepts.
