Cutting Dez is a Huge Mistake

The only way this really makes any sense as far as timing, is if this is a prelude to an ET trade or Martin's deal.

This just reeks of a front office that still has absolutely no clue what they're doing. Oil men running a football team...

Do you really believe there is another team in the league that would be willing to take on Dez's contract?

Why not?

It's actually a pretty team friendly deal at this point. Only $12.5MM due in base salary in 2018 and no longer term dead money left. With guys like Moncrief getting like $10MM for one year, $12.5MM to Dez is pretty decent.

The problem is that the Cowboys killed any value he might have.

Dez's contract is 30% more than Donte Moncrieft and 30% less than Sammy Watkins got. This is about moving on for the team and not taking a pay cut for Dez. Dez will probably end up with more money not less, just like Orlando Scandrick.

If he really wanted to be here he could have said he would play for less money. So it isn't all the Jones' choice that he is no longer here. Plus he had the choice to catch a bunch of balls that he dropped last year, has had the choice to work with a route guru before this off season, etc.

Bob Sturm did a great article that appears on "The Athletic" site (paid) that shows that it wasn't all Dak's fault the last couple years. Dez simply isn't the player he was.

I think the idea is that Dak is a correct-read, spread it around guy so you don't need the star #1.

Plus there are a ton of solid WRs we can add in the first three rounds of this draft.

But its still a mistake unless there are hobo graves in Dez's backyard.
Dez could adapt to a more inside/slants routes guy ....take Witten off the field on 3rd and long

For the Official Record

This is a gigantic mistake...... should have learned from DWare....... could have saved almost as much with a simple restructure

He could have been traded at worst....he will sign elsewhere quickly and he will play for 5-6 more years like ABoldin

I agree but it's a done deal. Stupid is as stupid does...

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t understand NFL finances and contracts. But how does New England get a first round pick for Cooks and we can’t trade Dez for anything?
Does that make all the Dez haters happy about this front office ?

I read that if he got hurt starting on Monday they would be responsible for his contract.

The worst part of this is that we will have to use a premium draft pick to take a WR that may in a few years be better than Dez.

That premium pick could have been a LB, starting Guard, Safety, 1 Tech, etc.

Mistake? Nah I just feel like the cowboys cured their cancer!
Exactly! Besides, he was dropping more passes then catching them after he had that big pay day. Out with the old in with some young fresh legs & hands.

Since he’s owned the Cowboys, Jerry has cut Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen, Terrell Owens and DeMarcus Ware. Smith, Allen and Owens are each in the Hall of Fame and Ware will soon join them. Do you really believe he won’t cut Dez Bryant? Every professional relationship eventually runs its course and the one between Bryant and the Cowboys is no different.

One of three things probably happened when Dez met with Jerry: 1) he was asked to take a significant pay cut from the $12.5 million he’s scheduled to earn 2) he’ll have an opportunity to see if he can get a better deal than the one Dallas offers 3) the Cowboys will release him.

Plus, if Dez participated in the off season and suffered some sort of injury, the 'Boys would be liable for his $12.5 million salary. Alot of fans (including myself until I read it) wasn't aware of this. Eight years is enough. Time to move on.

Just a bad front office all around. The team completely overvalues guys like Tyrone Crawford, Jeff Heath, Jason Garrett.

Can't get anything in return for players with actual value..Orlando Scandrick, Dez Bryant, DeMarcus Ware

The organization lacks real leadership and removes anyone who makes the supposed leaders feel uncomfortable.

I'm embarrassed as a fan.
sad but true

I didn't think they'd cut him this season. We lost a lot of talent at WR that we're realistically not going to replace. We'll end up using those targets probably more efficiently than we were using them with Dez. I'm torn on how good or bad decision this really was, but I hate to see Dez go.
