Cutting Vandy was a bad move

the missed FGs were bad enough, but the fact that his kickoffs consistently sucked was the finality of it IMO.
I think he might still be here if he was booming kickoffs for touchbacks.
He sucks, he was a punk, I'm glad he's gone, but frankly we should've done this earlier as there were better options than Grammatica earlier, not MUCH better options, but better IMO.

I'm not against cutting Vanderjact, but Martin Grammatica?

The last time I saw this guy kick alot was in Tampa a couple years ago, and he was really really awful...his misses werent even close

I hope this doesnt come back to bite us in the arse

David

We are going to just trust the staff's insights on this one. I am sure they brought him in for a tryout. Plus according to Tony Dungy, who coached him at Tampa and the Colts, he is kicking the best of his career right now. And Tony watched him kick everyday while Vinatieri was out.

I am sure Jerry and Bill did their homework on this one, so let's trust the staff.

To even suggest he's missing those kicks on purpose is insane.

almost as insane as the guy who started the thread saying Aikman is jealous of Romo and resents him playing well

With Vandershank missing field goals that "The Most Accurate Kicker in NFL History" should make easily and his "don't give a damn" attitude I'm surprised that he made it this far. With his history of blowing the really important kicks (see last year's playoffs) I would Never be comfortable having to depend on that jerk to make the clutch kick when we need it in the Playoffs.

At this point in the season Parcells is looking for everyone to pull his own weight and Vandershank was not even coming close. No free rides left on the Dallas Cowboys train.

I think barely making the 22 yarder sealed his fate and also there was talk by Mickey and others on the radio speculated that some of the players and coaches were tired of his act.

I think one of the biggest domino effects is that we may take points off of the board by going for it on 4th down because the lack of confidence in the kicking game and those points can come back to bite you in the later stages of the game.

i think the reason we paid vandy the moeny we did was to make the 40 yarder.most any kicker can make a 20 yd kick, and vandy was barely making them. but the elite have to make those long ones atleast most of the time and vandy was'nt. i don't know if martin is the answer but vandy sure was'nt.
to say he was missing intentionaly is silly, the guy is very proud of being the most accurate.he has lost it mentally. i don't think we have ever had a kicker who i had less confidence in than vandy

I sure didn't think so at the time, but that has proven true...

we should've gone after viniatery. anyways, i'm not losing any sleep after seing him go. he was very much the same we had the last 3 years. maybe parcells personality is too much for some of these kickers. they can't handle the pressure. so good riddance indeed. gramatica can't be any worse.

I have to say this move scares me to death. I had hopes that at some point Vandy might pull it together here and quite frankly I didn't see a better option out there regardless.

I live in Tampa and Gramatica better have gotten alot better than his last of couple years here or we just made a serious downgrade. I'll be hoping I'm wrong here ... I certainly would like nothing more than to be just that.

There is a good chance it was a bad move unless Grammtica returns to his early form which is a big risk.
I think we should have given Vandy more time but I don't understand the lockeroom situation.

Vandy has been hitting the ball solid just pushing to the right slightly. All but one of his misses hit the upright. It is a slight adjustment.

Also, his kickoffs had been improving.

I really thought he would be ok.

Vandy had almost 3/4 of a season to correct his problem and obviously couldn't get it done.

I'm glad he's gone, at least Gramatica is fun to watch.

without a doubt...

I can only imagine that the team started going through the same (Bledsoe)motions when Vandy lined up for kick... no confidence in him

You want to show how your championship analogy is similar to Vandy?

What are you talking about? Everytime the Cowboys lose it is a fix.

I, for one, am looking forward to it. Maybe he will bring some more confidence and enthusiasm to the team, Vandy brought only a strange combination of conceit and doubt. Sometimes, you just have to shut up and deliver; for whatever reason, Vandy didn't.

I never understood why they didn't make a run for Venateiri (-sp?). Sometimes saving a few bucks is counter-productive.

Think I'll wait and see, as if I had some kind of choice.

i don't want to lose games, but i don't think we have to worry that much about this guy.

i mean, the Commanders game kick was NOT his fault. he shouldn't take the blame for that.

and the two he missed the other week were not "gimmes" -- they were mid-40s. yes, he should have made them. but that's one bad game. you have to figure that the most accurate kicker in nfl history would make that up over time.

and his replacement? holy cow, gramatica's career percentage is hardly better than what vandy's percentage is for this season.

and considering that you still have to pay vandy his signing bonus and possibly all of his contract for this season, PLUS whatever you're paying gramatica directly, you have to look at it as if you're paying gramatica ALL of that combined -- because that's what you're paying for your kicker.

does anyone really think that gramatica is worth the price of TWO kickers?!

Signing Vanderjagt in the first place was a bad move. Particularly when Vinatieri was available.
