there are some serious cowboy haters. dan snyder has that kind of money.:D also vandy is set for life money wise

And there are serious Commander haters and serious Packer haters and serious Steeler haters - so what. Just because Dan Snyder has the money doesn't mean he is using it that way. Being rich isn't illegal or unethical.

Many people CAN afford to do any number of things, but being able is not equal to actually doing them.

If, as you say, Vandy is set for life financially, why would he need to ruin his NFL reputation for money?

YOU STILL HAVEN'T PROVIDED ANY LOGIC - TRY AGAIN ..........

His NFL reputation was as the most accurate kicker in history, and his status as a little bit of a head case didn't matter as long as he kept making kicks.

As for your other comment, an opinion has to be based in logic for it to have any value at all. Opinions without logic are nothing more than asinine statements.

Why the hell even offer an opinion if you admit it doesn't have any reasonable foundation in logic or fact?

Actually if memory serves Vinateiri was scheduled to come here after meeting with Indy and some other teams, and the Colts did what Jerry is famous for...when your guy visits, you don't let him leave.

That is exactly rigt, they offered him a nice contract and then said if he leaves the offer is off the table

I wish everyone on the forum would realize this and stop fussing about us not having Vinatieri. Plus if he came here, he would probably end up sucking anyway. We are cursed with kickers. I can't remember a kicker being clutch since Cundiff went 7-8 against the Giants on Monday night a few seasons back.

Assuming this is true, then we never even got our shot at him although we thought we would have that shot. Why some automatically assumed that we just chose not to persue him or that he was ours for the taking is beyond me.

Vinatieri was available for a couple of months before the Colts signed him. We had lots of time to bring him in but his asking price was seen as too high and we chose to pursue other options (two guys were on our radar but I can't think of their names right now). When most of those options were taken off the board we were left with Vandy and Vinatieri. We scheduled AV for a visit but the Colts signed him first, leaving us with Vandy as the only option.

Obviously, Parcells/Jones weren't all that enamoured with Vandy since he was the last guy we were considering. His attitude had been a problem in Indy for years and his accuracy was starting to slip, both reasons why the Colts let him go (they didn't offer him a contract when his was up).

We had an opportunity to sign Vinatieri as soon as he was released but he wanted a bigger contract than we were initially willing to offer. I bet Jerry would offer it now in a heartbeat though.

Lastly, I and many others on this and other forums, were less than thrilled with signing Vanderjagt. He had a reputation that was not encouraging, as a malcontent and a choker, neither of which I was anxious to have here.

Are you serious? You think that he missed these kicks on purpose? He is willing to kick himself out of the league? So with this thinking, "I don't want to play for the colts, let miss a FG; I don't like Dallas, lets miss some FG."

Sorry, I don't buy it. Vandy, here's you check for this year, and there's the door. Say good-bye to your career.

HOWEVER, that game was on the line. Vandy had mixed it up with various people in Indy and was called an "idiot kicker" by Peyton "Frankenstein" Manning.

Now, does the "idiot kicker" make the kick so Manning can go on to be MVP of the Super Bowl and Vandy plays a supporting role and then gets lost in the shuffle?

Or does Vandy's subconsconcious veer the ball a little to far off?

We'll never know for sure, but after that tumultuous and word-stained season of the Colts last year, I can see how some may think he did miss on purpose.

...clamoring for more reasonable alternatives than both Vandy and Vinny. I for one felt Ryan Longwell was a good fit for the Cowboys.

A move to a southern climate. Experience in kicking outdoors in Green Bay. A chance to kick on artificial turf in home games and a cheaper asking price.

I don't think he's ever been on the radar as a head case and to top it off he's kicking at an 86% clip this year. Under 40 yards he's perfect.

Kinda sounds like a good candidate to be a Cowboys kicker. Nothing special, but nothing to lose your lunch over.

Longwell was one of the guys we were targeting but he was signed right away by the Vikes.

...that we weren't able to market the warm weather and artificial turf to him.

He's on the downside of his career and a move to Dallas would have been a good fit. Combine that with a strong young team and I would have thought we had a winner in the Longwell sweepstakes.
