That's irrelevant. Right guards are not more valuable than running backs. Now a player of Zack's caliber is more important than most RB's yes but not the position itself.
It’s very relevant. Right guards are are absolutely more valuable than RB’s. The value of the position itself is dictated by the demand for the players at that position.

In a vacuum, there’s no real reason that TE shouldn’t be just as valuable as WR; it’s the players at WR who make it more valuable. Same with RB vs RG, there is no “one or the other” because both are necessary. But RG is a more valuable position because of the impact of the best players at it are more noticeable than the impact of the best players at RB.

Yeah I don't see it. There' probably only 3 or 4 right guards I'd take over Saquon Barkley. That's the funny thing If the NFL had a draft I guarantee more RB's would go up top before guards would. I'd take Saquon over Landon Dickerson or hell about 10 RB's over Landon Dickerson.

He signed the contract let him live up to it. The team has some big contracts coming up with Dak, CeeDee and Parsons.
Totally agree. To me, it's not "just business". The timing for this trick was planned and coordinated. We're not talking about an hourly worker striving for a dollar an hour raise, we're talking about millionaires fighting for more and more. Martin was well paid, he's a multi millionaire for pete's sake, thanks to the Cowboys.
But now since he see's somebody else making more, he believes that justifies breaking the contract he signed. In my book that's not just business, it's greed. More than enough is never enough.
I've been a real fan of Martin, but Zack you signed the contract, live up to it! Do what you said you were going to do.

I have no doubt teams would continue to make those mistakes, but they aren’t warranted.

Saquon Barkley 2022 career year:
295 carries, 1312 yards, 4.4 ypc

D’onta Foreman & Chubba Hubbard, Panthers:
298 carries, 1380 yards, 4.6 ypc

Saquon wants 14m$ AAV and settled for 11m, while these two made a combined 3 million. Panthers had a worse offensive system, worse passing game, and most importantly a worse offensive line. What makes Saquon so much more valuable that you’ll burn that much salary cap? You can replace most or all of his impact for peanuts. You cannot do that with Zach Martin

There are currently 15 guards making more AAV than what Saquon settled for, and many more who are on rookie deals that will eventually eclipse his number. Most of those guys are not all-pro caliber. Is half the league making a mistake? The owners are ahead on this.

Headline in newspapers 4 years ago…almost exactly:
I expect this pattern to be followed with Zack Martin by early September.

I agree, but at the same time they caved to Zeke, a player and a position less important than Martin.
When we caved to Zeke, he was a young player and was very important to our team. Our offense revolved around him. When we lost him to a six game suspension in 2017 our season went down the drain. The Cowboys were 5-3 heading into Atlanta and proceeded to lose three straight games without Zeke. It ruined our season.

Why is this concept so difficult to see?
You only have so much salary cap to go around.
If you start keeping all your top performers at the top of their positional pay scale, you are not going to be able to field a competitive team long term.
I have been hard on this front office, but they are getting this right.
A lot of concepts are difficult to see by fans on this board.

Doesn't deserve a pay raise. Refused to fill in at a more important position during tough times. Not a team player. He wanted a new contact frontloaded early and he got it. Can't cave to everything with more important players coming up(lamb, parsons)

I have to agree that RG is more important than RB.

Team building 101

1) QB
2) Protect QB
3) Sack other team's QB
4) Everything else
Jerry knows how important a right guard is on a football team. He was a right guard, team co-captain, on a national champion collegiate team. He is not about to be manipulated by Martin and his agent. He did not come all this way since 1964 to be told what he’s going to do. That’s why he’s an owner that wants to also be the GM. He wants to do the telling and he expects everyone in his organization to do the listening. Zach is trying to be the moving party in this stand off. If Martin wants something from Jerry at this point he’s going to have to overtly show grace and humility.

Panthers sucked last year. Giants made it to the playoffs and a big part of that was Barkley.

Your RB protects your QB. And this team building is way off. You aren’t even listing positions other than QB.

Raiders sucked last year too and Jacobs won the rushing title. What does that mean?

If the Giants replaced Barkley with a committee that replicated his production then they would have been a big part of making the playoffs instead, and if the Raiders replaced Jacobs with a committee who replicated his production they still would have sucked. The difference would be indistinguishable. That is not the case with Zach Martin.

I said Barkley I didn’t say anything about Jacobs. McDaniels is their coach. He’s trash.
