Don't want to turn this into some kind of religious debate, but the only truth is that nobody knows the "Truth".

Of course the movie is fiction, no doubt about that. But as far as christ, christians, etc... (any kind of religion) no one "Knows" the truth.

That's where "faith" and "knowing" are different IMO. You have to have "Faith" and "believe" in god. But if you "knew" the truth you wouldn't need faith.

I'm sure I screwed that explanation up. Don't mean to offend anyone's religion, but it's the truth. We need to have "Faith" cuz we don't actually "Know".

Me? I don't care either way. I figure I might find out about all that stuff when I die. And if there really is a god out there I doubt he'll condemn me to hell just cuz I didn't have some water sprinkled on my head or whatever. There's plenty of priests out there that know more about god then I'll ever know, and have prayed more then I'll ever pray, but that deserve to go to the deepest part of hell cuz they molested some innocent kid. I'm no saint, but I haven't committed any of the "Big" sins. Although I know for a fact I'm capable of murder. If I found out right now (was presented undeniable facts) who killed my nephew I'd load up my gun and end his life within the hour.

But that's just gettin' a bit too much off topic.

with a few rare exceptions, most of us are capable of just about anything given the right or wrong circumstances. sorry to hear about your nephew, but i'd likely feel exactly the same way if something happened to my daughter.

I have the book, but have not got to read it yet...in the middle of a JRR Tolkien trilogy right now...well four since I am reading the hobbit.

However I do wish people to remember that the divinci code is a book and movie of FICTION.

So no need for people to get their whitie tighties all in a bundle.
I know Ron Howard and Hanks have stressed that it is fiction... but didn't Dan Brown kind of go out of his way to insist that his book was all meticulously researched fact (or at least well-grounded theory)?

I may be wrong here, because I haven't paid much attention to this whole DaVinci Code craze. But that was my impression, and that's why people were so upset about it, because he was attempting to re-write biblical history, so to speak.

Between you and me, I'd much rather read the Tolkein books. My son and I are slowly making our way through the Ring trilogy. We get through about 4-6 pages a night.

I think there was something of a preface, maybe in the hardcover version, of his book that said the society of pcion (sp?) was a real group.

However it has been proven that it was a real group...of only 3 people who made the rest of the stuff up, like divinci being a member of it and the idea that it was centuries old.

So no matter if people believe some of the theories behind the book, it is STILL a work of fiction.

As for as J.Tolkien.

I read these books as a child myself and thought I would go back and read them again since it has been 25+ years ago.

I saw Code yesterday and loved it. Even if only 5% is true, then the Roman Catholic Church is the most evil institution on the planet.

I thought the book was enjoyable but somewhat overrated. There are other similar books out there that are just as good but didn't get that hype. The bad reviews have turned me off to the movie so far, but I may see it at the dollar theater or something. As others have said, X3 is what I've been waiting for. That and the second Pirates of the Carribean movie.

Same here on Pirates... I actually got a new 50" HD Plasma last week and an HDMI DVD player and I watched the first one with the surround blasting... what a cool experience...

They are releasing Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest this summer, and are currently filming the third installment called Pirates of the Carribean 3 (as of right now)... for release next summer...

Saw a documentary the other day on it and they visited the real society. Apparently, they're pretty boring compared to the book and film version. Just a bunch of old guys that get together on Sundays in the library to talk about ancient texts. I guess it's like a Trekkie convention, just replace Spock or Kirk with Jesus Christ, and assume everyone has graduate degrees.

The book was horrible. Not because I'm a Christian and it offended me (I'm an atheist), but because it was written for people with ADD and the characters were abysmal. The plot twists were made-for-TV quality.

:laugh1: trekkie convention.

Have you ever watched those two documentaries on the trekkies, it had me rolling.

I mean I like SNG and some of the others, I don't mind the movies and such, but man those guys are flat out in need of a life.

Have you read any of Brown's other books? Da Vinci was the best unfortunately.

Made-for-TV is a perfect description.

I saw the first one. Good stuff! That guy in the yes/no machine tripped me out. I felt like a nerd just knowing what episode that was from, much less wearing it to a Trekkie convention. :laugh1:

I can't remember. Was it the "Trekkies" or the "Trekkers" who were considered posers?

Can't remember if it was the first or second but one guy was in some foreign country and had turned his apartment into the enterprise LOL I think Denise crosby visited him.

I haven't read the book, but my wife did. She couldn't put it down. She has also read all of Brown's other books and liked them too. To each his own I guess.

For me, the movie is worth seeing just to look at Audrey Tautou for 2.5 hours.

I just saw the movie tonight.

Pretty true to the book although Howard threw in a few things of his own.

Brown's books are page turners, but they really are similar to a made for TV movie. Pick the least likely/most surprising person to be the villian halfway through and you've figured it out.

DaVinci had a lot of good research and a very creative interpretation of history.

It is what it is. Great page turner to burn your way through when you have a flight to catch or something.

I am a Christian, but I urge people to go see the movie. It doesn't offend me in the least. I also think that after reading the book and seeing the movie that people shouldn't stop there. I recomend two books to anyone who is interested in seeing Browns book blown out of the water. "A Quest For Answers, THe DcVinci Code" by Josh McDowell, and "Exploring The DaVinci Code" by Lee Strobel and Garry Poole.

I myself don't have an interest in seeing the movie. In fact, my college bible study group went to see it tonight and I stayed home....but, I bought a few copies of each of the two books I recomended to give to anyone who is willing to read them.

Now to those who are taking the approach of "It's a book, don't get your panties all twisted".

It's not the book that has people up in arms. It's the fact that if someone doesn't know any better, their minds can be molded and maybe even made up by reading Browns trash. Thats what has most people up in arms over the whole thing.

And if a person believes what they see in the movie theatre, they probably have much bigger issues......like avoiding vampires and werewolves. :lmao2:
