Ugh. You mean to say the Boys will c it Him and then He will come back in a year. . . Ala ZekeYep, that'll save Jerry $29m cash (but a bit late to effect free agency improvements). A more dynamic statement is to Pre-Cut and take the full $66M cap hit, in 2024 (will only take $1m in restructures.....maybe Diggs/Steele). This will give enough to extend CeeDee, Micah and money left over and we'll have seen Lance for a year (and Jerry's happy as he's 'saved' $29m). If Lance fails, we get a great draft position.
Everyone's happy,......even Pro-Dak as we'll be in a much better place to sign him in 2025 (if Lance doesnt work out).
Its a win/win/win. Short term pain. long term gain.
How so you figure that when the Family Members of His Teammates can not take it any moreWhy......he can just wait until the end of the season when he becomes a free agent. The only leverage Jerry has is to bench Dak if he refuses to waive the no-trade clause and make him inactive for 17 games but he will lose the team.
The course of action I suggested is the most professional and is in the best interests of the team. Whether some other team wants to pay Dak is irrelevant to the Cowboys. Our aim is to get out of a bad deal with the least negative impact on the team. We hold out on cutting him until final cuts and there's s chance some team who lost their starter to injury in training camp panics and we can offload him with a slightly lighter hit. He’s going to be paid a lot of money to play quarterback in the NFL. He knows it. His agent knows it. Jerry Jones knows it. He’s not going to take less than the offer he likes the most from an NFL ownership group. The notion that Jerry Jones is going to act in an unprofessional manner is just foolishness. Why do you suggest it? Cowboys fans that want some sort of retribution from Dak as punishment for the loss to Green Bay have issues. “unless he halves his basic salary”, seriously? Quarterbacks do not set the market price for NFL quarterbacks. The owners set the price. Dak will have offers and he’ll have to select the one he likes the best.
My bad. lol.Ugh. You mean to say the Boys will c it Him and then He will come back in a year. . . Ala Zeke
Why did you put that in my head . . . knowing Jerry it actually could play out this way . . . Noooooooo
Yep, it comes down to, if both parties are miles apart (and France is in his entrenched bunker) then Jerry has the choice (sorry @Chasing6 I suppose that's leverage) whether he wishes to pay the 2024 salary ($29m).The course of action I suggested is the most professional and is in the best interests of the team. There is no obligation on the team to cut Dak before training camp to facilitate him getting a better financial deal with another team.
Likewise there is no obligation on the team to pay him the full or any of the unguaranteed part if his 2024 salary if he is to stay for 2024.
Foiotball is a business. Trying to facilitate favorite players to the detriment of the team has gotten us into this mess in the first place.
Playing out his final year and parting ways is not leverage. Nice try.Yep, it comes down to, if both parties are miles apart (and France is in his entrenched bunker) then Jerry has the choice (sorry @Chasing6 I suppose that's leverage) whether he wishes to pay the 2024 salary ($29m).
If there's no agreement on the horizon and there's no realistic, miraculous run deep into the play-offs (which we couldnt do, when in a much better position in 2023).....why keep Dak in the vain hope that circumstances align whereby we MAY get to trade him to a, another team (which Dak approves) loses their QB and he's got a chance of upping his value for 2025.
Placating Dak/France in a vain hope he throws a bone in the negotiations has failed.......Jerry save yourself $29m (id prefer a Pre-June Cut and take the CAP HIT THIS YEAR). Dak go and try and find SOME OF THE LOST 2024 SALARY and (sorry @NotForLong ) we'll see what the negotiations are at the end of the season (when we're in a better CAP scenario, having saved $29m and lowered the 2025 CAP hit).
Like the man says............Dak's Legacy Drive..............and why no extension is on the horizon for the Dakster! Why would anyone want to get rid of an All Pro QB?

Re-read. I said Jerry has leverage as he can cut Dak....who'll lose the $29m salary and won't re-coup it in 2024.Playing out his final year and parting ways is not leverage. Nice try.
agreed, 100%.Dallas has to pay the money they kicked down the road. It had nothing to do with the last contract. 4 years $160M was pretty reasonable. The fact they still owe $95M on his last year is the problem. GM Jethro created that problem.
The original contract was designed to pay him $43M this year.
He is in the playoffs!!Agreed on not overpaying him, but Dak isn't the problem.
What also adds to the challenge is fans have no idea why we are in this situation to begin with. They believe Dak is being over paid, when it just appears that way, due to Jerry make more bad decisions.agreed, 100%.
The distinction I was making was that it is more complicated because any extension would carry forward terms/provisions we dread today; no trade, no tag.
If you don't extend; you can't tear up the old contract without paying out that 95M over 2 years.
So it definitely adds to the challenge here.
And it is why Dak has so much power.
