That's not true. It mandates what you can pay on the rookie scale but it does not prevent a rookie not already making maxed rookie money from getting a raise to that maxed rookie money. After his third season, he was eligible for an extension and they still failed to act. You can stop making excuses for the Jones boy's abuse of Dak. It's about damn time Dak dished out some abuse of his own to the Jones pocketbook.

Pay attention, I didn't say extension. I said "better contract" as in rip up his rookie deal and pay him better. It's not about what he was eligible for, it's about doing what's right. Dak deserved a better contract after his rookie season. The Jones boys messed up when that did not happen. Making him stick to that 4th rounder deal for 4 years sent a message to Dak that has him squeezing every penny he can get out of his current negotiations. The Jones boys created this mess.

It has to do with everything. You can't arbitrarily assign players bonuses. If that's the case, why not just sign Dak to a 5 year vet minimum deal and just give him a $35 million bonus every year just to be nice and show him your appreciation? Anything and everything to do with player compensation has to be stipulated within a contract, of which rookie deals can not be altered in any way until after the player's third season.

I don't know where you want to draw the line for "top paid QBs" but it's clear most of the top paid are at least making it to the Super Bowl. Excluding Dak 5 of the top 6 appeared in one. Buy yeah, let's pay Dak because it means we'll have more success with him than ever before...dude is never going to have a better opportunity with so many 1st round picks surrounding him, but the excuses will roll for him if the offense can't steamroll their way to a championship.

Some of you would rather just argue just to be on Daks side, it's pathetic.

You can't do as you suggest because Dak would never accept vet minimum deal, not because it's prohibited.

Jerry should have tried harder, even it it meant overpaying Dak. They would still be in a better position now if they had done that, particularly salary cap wise which is what matters most. Plus it would have avoided the never-ending distraction.

Dak also had an incentive to sign after year 3 since he wouldn’t be taking the risk of playing out his cheap rookie contract. He also had a more reasonable agent back then.

Well-managed teams almost never let their QB’s play out their contract if they intend to keep them.

But it’s too late for that now.
