Sadly they will cave in because they are old football guys and old football guys still think QBs are hard to find and if you have a decent one then you have to pay whatever market value is.

Dallas screwed this thing up by placing the wrong tag on him.

The Dalton signing was brilliant but they really just need to let Dak hit the open market and see what happens.

Worst case scenario is you free yourself from losing a ton of cap space.

Dallas will cave though. It’s what they do.

Jerry should have tried harder, even it it meant overpaying Dak. They would still be in a better position now if they had done that, particularly salary cap wise which is what matters most. Plus it would have avoided the never-ending distraction.

Dak also had an incentive to sign after year 3 since he wouldn’t be taking the risk of playing out his cheap rookie contract. He also had a more reasonable agent back then.

Well-managed teams almost never let their QB’s play out their contract if they intend to keep them.

But it’s too late for that now.

What is overpaid in 2018? Is that 27 average? Is that 30? Dak was never ever going to sign an extension because he and CAA wanted to be in the situation they are in now. You can't just put this all on the team. You don't know the other side of the negotiation.

He tried that in his very first playoff game. Brought the team back from down 18 to tie it late and we know what happened next. I guess he couldn't "will" the defense.

2016 is ages ago and since that 13-3 season

9-7 no playoffs, had horrible stretch without zeke etc, 2018 started 3-5(bad stretch again) needed a bailout with a new line coach and a WR 1 in cooper to save that season, oops then 2019 last 6 games 3 of which he was horrible included the win and in game against the eagles..

far too many stretches' where he looks like a 4th round qb.. so it what have you dont for me lately and lately its not been consistent enough for me...

so 27-21 last 3 years with no playoffs twice.. back to NOW... lets see a signature game in the playoffs that end in a FN win ..smh theres no signature moments in a loss..

Dak deserved a better contract after his rookie season. The Jones boys messed up when that did not happen. Making him stick to that 4th rounder deal for 4 years sent a message to Dak that has him squeezing every penny he can get out of his current negotiations. The Jones boys created this mess.

+1.....Here are the 2018 top 15 QBs salaries. Notice what the 2nd and 3rd highest contracts then look like now. I'm guessing a deal under $30M was possible.

NFL rules prevent players from getting a new contract after year 1 or after year 2...

Based on this reasoning there have been less than 50 QBs deserving of a long-term contract over the last 50+ years.
