Dak extension?

While analytics confirm Prescott is a top QB, his high variance was an issue in 2022. Certainly his high interception total had a lot to do with the situations the Dallas offense put him in, constantly forcing him to bail them out with spectacularly risky throws to receivers who couldn’t create separation in bad down-distance scenarios.

But still, a repeat turnover performance by Prescott in 2023 could change the team’s thinking about hitching their wagons to him. It is this reason why it would not be surprising to see Dallas take a mid-round QB in April’s draft, to potentially have a bridge QB better than Cooper Rush should the team need to prepare for a divorce.

Clayton Tune, Hendon Hooker, Dorian Thomspon-Robinson all sit as potential guys who with the right seasoning could be in play for Dallas.

Still, that is highly unlikely and more CYA than anticipated course of action. Prescott in all likelihood will be the Cowboys QB for the remainder of the decade and that is more than likely a very good thing.

It is more than likely a very good thing if he can show that the ending to both 22 and 23 was primarily down to factors other than his lack of composure under pressure.

Wow, Dak remain the Cowboys franchise QB from today in 2023 through 2030? That's 8 more seasons of Dak! He would be 37, going on 38 by then.

Can you imagine how many would lose their minds? Some for sure would change teams waaaaay before then. LOOOOOL

:p
It would be just 8 more seasons of wasted effort by everyone else while Dak is being paid more than Mahomes. Parsons would leave the team or quit trying so hard.

So you're saying these past 7 seasons have been wasted under Dak?

As far as his football career goes Dak has to be the luckiest guy to ever play in the NFL.

He started, by default, in a dream situation. Somehow got one of the most lucrative deals in NFL QB history while coming off a very serious injury.

Now, when the team finally has a very competitive defense, giving them the best chance to go somewhere in over a quarter century, he has the team by the short hairs if they want to maximize the window this defense should provide.

One thing is certain. The next 2 to 3 years will define Dak's legacy.
Exactly! He is so lucky everyone around him gets blamed also why he sits back acting like he did his job.The thing is had Dak been drafted by Detroit or Cleveland he would of been kicked to the curb and been another backup that bounces around the league.

Bunch of bull. You don't put up numbers that Dak has by simply being average or backup material in the NFL.

IDK.

The worst thing for a fan hoping for a championship, is to be just kinda good.

We've been the definition of "kinda good" for decades now.

When ur kinda good, ur never good enuff to win it all, nor bad enough to land one of the elite QB prospects like the truly horrid teams get. We've been a slightly less successful version of the Vikings for 27 years
I’d agree we are the model of mediocrity this era .

I haven’t had any real hope for a championship in a couple decades . Not with this dysfunctional ownership. It’s amazing we’ve been able to field as competitive team as we have .

The fact we have stumbled onto a couple QB’s has allowed this franchise to stay out of the bottom dwellers. Or we’d of been more like the Browns this era.

funny you mention washington suffering at QB . have you seen dak score only 6 against the commanders in a big loss ( 25-6) to an unknown QB called Sam Howell. ? puts things in perspective about Dak the 40 mil dollar a year QB. as @Captain-Crash said , what is the difference with or without dak !
yep, the 12 wins, in the end, mean nothing. Absolute nothing and Rush put up 4 of those wins. I hope we get a participation trophy for the 12 wins. Bam, game, set and match.

His chance hasn't finished yet. You're just going to have to deal with it.
His chance is over its just going thru the motions and wasting everyone else's effort before the ownership finally realizes it. They are usually a year behind in thier decisions. The media though has seen enough and I actually find it amusing that some still have this hope that this team can win anything with him at QB. I'll sit back and stay amused until this team gets serious and let's him walk.

Yeah, we really did just kinda get "lucky" to get above average (but not great) starters in Romo and dak. Though you could also call that a curse, as it kept us a slightly above average but not elite team for so so long. It's rare that an average team lands a Patrick Mahomes (elite QB taken outside of top 5), and will be even rarer now as teams roll the dice more and more searching for next Mahomes

They weren’t very good, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying they were horrible. They still made the playoffs winning two of their last three regular season games and Brady was still a very viable QB putting up almost 4700 yards. He had never lost to the Cowboys in seven meetings and we still beat him on the road in a playoff game.
They beat two winning teams last year, include us in the opener.

No, they were gawd awful.

This is not true. Quite the opposite. Romo never blamed himself. Dak always takes the blame. As for Dak being maxed out, I disagree. Surround him with more than 1 weapon at WR, plus a healthy good Oline, along with better playcalling, Dak will show you he can perform better and take this team further than Romo could. Keep an eye out on these next two seasons.

Dak: "It's disappointing. We've got to do better. It's starts with me..."

That was Dak 3 years ago. He's always taking the blame first.

Dak should take the blame because he is by far the biggest problem. He is the reason they lost both playoff games to the 49ers. Him.

The teams that were gawd awful will be picking in the top 10 in April.

Not sure the accuracy of this statement from Heavy on Cowboys, but if it’s accurate then I’m at a loss for words. I’m a Dak supporter but at some point I think he needs to be sat down and asked a serious question, do you want to be paid (again) or win a Super Bowl? You can’t build a team paying one guy $50+ million unless that guys name is Patrick Mahomes, absolutely absurd at this point.

OK that's fair, he's got those improvements you want in 2024, so what's the watermark to assess success or failure?
For Dak and MM the watermark should be NFCCG, but there will context to the season as always, They should draft a QB in the mid rounds this year and at least start looking for a legit QB if only for the fact you can actually hit on one. Not saying "Tradt everything for the tyop rated QB" because thats a death sentence and generally your playing russian roulette with if it works out.

I’ll lose no sleep if he doesn’t get extended but from a financial position I think it will happen.

But if they don’t it’s fine but if and when they do I’ll smile because I know it will irritate the posters that have made this site miserable for the last 5 years

Tony...that was as good as a punt...then another time ....if that is the worst thing that happens to me I have lived a pretty good life....

Dak...those INT's will not happen again, I promise that...next game...those INT's will not happen again, I promise that. ...next game...those INT's will not happen again, I promise that. ...next game...those INT's will not happen again, I promise that. ...next game...those INT's will not happen again, I promise that.

Same after getting bounced by SF for the 2nd year in a row.

Not sure if that is taking the blame, but it is a lot of empty promises.

Not hating on Tony or Dak, but just posting what both QB's said.

So when may we ask if he is going to get better?
Year 8 coming up before you know it he will be a HOF candidate. :muttley:
Not sure if he can get any better, talent wise, other than reducing the INT's and fumbles for sacks.
But he can play better if surrounded by better players and coaching. We will see the effects of losing Moore, but possibly gains from MM's play calling / updated offense.
