This is not true. Quite the opposite. Romo never blamed himself. Dak always takes the blame. As for Dak being maxed out, I disagree. Surround him with more than 1 weapon at WR, plus a healthy good Oline, along with better playcalling, Dak will show you he can perform better and take this team further than Romo could. Keep an eye out on these next two seasons.
OK that's fair, he's got those improvements you want in 2024, so what's the watermark to assess success or failure?

If they extend him, we will know that floating Max Duggan's name out there was just BS....on the other hand, those idiots can never keep their mouths shut....someone will jump up and take him just head of us, just like Dallas Goedert.

Good question...

I say Dak has to throw for 3,500+ yards, 30+ passing TDs, 12 or less INTs, 66+ completions %, 95+ passer rating, reduce his mistakes, make smarter in-game decisions and lead this team hopefully at least to a conference championship game (has a lot to do with the team as well).

Oh, and hopefully take a paycut to help the team. If he gets greedy once again, time to look for his replacement ASAP. Hope Cowboys draft Houston QB Clayton Tune in the 5th round or so just to develop.

I want him to step up when everything go wrong. The Commanders game and the 49ers were games that his head dropped. Granted they're both good Defenses and it's not even that we lost it's that his body language says ...."ive tried and failed, they're too good", where as when he's on a roll he's a world beater.

Dak: "It's disappointing. We've got to do better. It's starts with me..."

That was Dak 3 years ago. He's always taking the blame first.

So when may we ask if he is going to get better?
Year 8 coming up before you know it he will be a HOF candidate. :muttley:

Be warned, many on here won't like this.....I'm not even sure if I like it.

$50 mil/year extension is way too much for any QB, Coach! That is team destructive. I hope the Cowboys draft Houston's Clayton Tune with a mid-round pick (4th or 5th). That would be best for the team and force Dak and his agent to lower their price if Dak truly wants to continue being a Dallas Cowboy for several more years while his replacement gets groomed. If Dak and his agent refuse, ....... BYE after 2024!!!

Who’s going to trade a better QB than Dak for him? Lol The Rams were desperate to win a Super Bowl so they traded two first round picks and Jared Goff for Matt Stafford. Stafford didn’t want to play in Detroit anymore. Brady came about by accident if you want to look at it that way. He was drafted with a low round pick and got an opportunity after Drew Bledsoe was injured. Brock Purdy came about by accident after Jimmy G got hurt. Many years ago Jim Plunkett got an opportunity with the Raiders after Dan Pastorini got injured. Kurt Warner got an opportunity after Trent Green got injured and took advantage of it. Cooper Rush got an opportunity after Dak got injured, and even though the Cowboys won some games with him he’s not that good. Our passing offense wasn’t very good, we were winning games with defense. The Cowboys became the highest scoring team in the league after Dak returned.
No arguments from me here. Dak plays a lot better when our run game is in top form. It's when our run game struggles that he does as well. He simply can't make up for it.

He's a better QB now than in 2016 but Zeke hid his flaws. Pollard helped a lot this past season.

I’m no Dak apologist, just providing an honest assessment of our situation. It’s a fact he’s better than what most teams have the position, which is why he’s been our QB since 2016. You have idiots on this board that would rather go with a washed up Matt Ryan or one of the castoffs that are bouncing around the league. Washington has been going through QB hell ever since they allowed Cousins to walk. Now they’re stuck with Jacoby Brissett. If it was up to fans on this board, we would be in the same sinking boat.
funny you mention washington suffering at QB . have you seen dak score only 6 against the commanders in a big loss ( 25-6) to an unknown QB called Sam Howell. ? puts things in perspective about Dak the 40 mil dollar a year QB. as @Captain-Crash said , what is the difference with or without dak !

The difference without Dak is we don’t win 12+ games in back to back seasons, making the playoffs both seasons and winning a road playoff game against Tom Brady. Do you think Washington is going to go anywhere with Sam Howell? Lol They signed Jacoby Brissett, just another in a long list of castoffs they’ve been stuck with. If it was up to fans like you we would be in the same sinking boat as Washington. They’ve made the playoffs one time since they let Cousins walk and that was with a 7-9 record. You really don’t know what’s going on if you don’t think there would be a difference with or without Dak.

Wow, I've woken up in the alternate universe where a fan forum has some salient and balanced points and an actual DISCUSSION about Dak

My gut instinct is that Dallas has somebody different calling the shots now, different scheme. I can't remember when Dallas was active this early in free agency. Max Duggan appears to be a smokescreen. Dallas is after a different quarterback in the draft coming up late April. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. Smokescreen with Max Duggan.

Instead, I think the Cowboys are seriously interested in Clayton Tune.

While analytics confirm Prescott is a top QB, his high variance was an issue in 2022. Certainly his high interception total had a lot to do with the situations the Dallas offense put him in, constantly forcing him to bail them out with spectacularly risky throws to receivers who couldn’t create separation in bad down-distance scenarios.

But still, a repeat turnover performance by Prescott in 2023 could change the team’s thinking about hitching their wagons to him. It is this reason why it would not be surprising to see Dallas take a mid-round QB in April’s draft, to potentially have a bridge QB better than Cooper Rush should the team need to prepare for a divorce.

Clayton Tune, Hendon Hooker, Dorian Thomspon-Robinson all sit as potential guys who with the right seasoning could be in play for Dallas.

Still, that is highly unlikely and more CYA than anticipated course of action. Prescott in all likelihood will be the Cowboys QB for the remainder of the decade and that is more than likely a very good thing.

Wow, Dak remain the Cowboys franchise QB from today in 2023 through 2030? That's 8 more seasons of Dak! He would be 37, going on 38 by then.

Can you imagine how many would lose their minds? Some for sure would change teams waaaaay before then. LOOOOOL

:p
