Dak is not awful, let's really look at things closely!

Here you go again. Jones signed that contract in 2023, or two years after Prescott signed his deal. Jackson, Herbert and Hurts all signed deals in 2023 that were north of 50 million/year.

Dak signed a deal that put him right at the top of the salary heap and Jones signed a deal that paid him considerably less than the top of the heap.
Dak signed his in 2021…Daniel Jones signed the same deal in 2023. Daniel Jones could sign it in 2052 and it will still be an overpay. Daniel Jones was never signing anywhere near Jackson, Herbert or Hurts or Love.

Dak was not awful early on in his career and during the regular season, then playoffs he sucked and now he's got injuries piling up.

He's a shell of 2016 dak, can't run, cant see clearly, makes bad decisions and his time is nearly up - if it wasn't for his awful contract he would probably be gone

This.

The Joneses made a monumental blunder paying this guy.

And now both the entire organization as well as the fanbase will pay the price for several more years.

He is not awful, but he has some serious flaws that are hard to overlook.

Dak is a good QB, maybe better than average for the league. But it is hard to overlook the fact he is the highest paid QB in the league and getting millions more than QBs much better than he is. That is the first problem. It makes me wonder if winning is Dak's highest priority. His contract screams otherwise. In fact, he last contract did too.

We have to look at last season. Dak was awful last season. He was nothing like he was in 2023 when he was runner up in the MVP voting. IMO, it was the pressure of playing up to his new contract. Dak does not do well under pressure. When he feels he has to do it all, he tries to do too much and he does not have the talent for it.

And Dak no longer uses his legs. I think it's because he can't. He gets run down from behind by DTs now. He is not good enough to be a pocket passer. He needs to work on his legs and get in better running shape so he can at least threaten to run sometimes.

At this point, we are stuck with him. But I think it is time for Dallas to move on. The made a huge mistake with his contract and that is unfortunate, But it's times to prepare to cut and run from him and his contract even if it means suffering with an inferior QB until they can find another solution.

You seriously don't understand how your comparison is flawed?

Simple math shows us that in order for your comparison to have any value you would have to adjust for the difference in market rate in the two years between Prescott signing his deal and Jones signing his.

That 40 million Jones got in 2023 is approximately 20% less than the top of the market got. Had he signed for 50 million, or if Prescott had signed for 32 million in 2021, you would have a more valid comparison.

Comparing deals made two years apart, at face value, is a fools errand.

Who needs the highest paid player ever to be good in the playoffs and against good teams anyways?
Lol! Serious question....do you have an alarm set to go off in your head, anytime someone mentions Dak?
I need one of those, to wake me up every time coogs starts a thread....actually, all I gotta do is check in every 2 minutes! Lol

I love how the Homers here act like Pavlov's dog when Dak is mentioned...

One minute "It's just the QB market, if a QB is somewhat viable he's gonna get paid market value or overpaid due to supply & demand"

Next minute "Dak got paid top of the market cause he was like third alternate for the Pro Bowl yet Jones taking an 80% of market deal was a ludicrous signing?"

Dak got paid because Jerry is an idiot. But, he's signed and you're still here. One born every minute

So you believe Dak was overpaid in 2021 when he signed his deal? Because that’s what’s being argued here isn’t it?

Jerry is an idiot. I finally accepted that so I'm here mostly to laugh at him not to buy his product and to continue relationship with the folks that are good posters. It's a team website not a player website so my participation isn't dependent on who is or isn't signed. So, your comment really fell short of hitting any mark.

DT's? Heck, the Cheerleaders don't even get out of the way when he is running to the sidelines

I do believe that Dak was overpaid. but that is not what I was referring to.

You tried to compare Jones' contract to Prescott's contract as if they were an equivalent comparison. You are trying to sell us that it cost the same to get Jones as it did to get Prescott. That is just not true because it ignores the 20-25 percent increase in salary at the top of the QB market in the two years between each contract. Jones got approximately 80% of what the top tier were getting in 2023 while Prescott got 100% of what the top tier were getting in 2021.

Not gonna lie. The back-and-forth sub-discussion of the relative, comparative value of contracts signed during different years, is remaking a Coog thread into an interesting one.
