I think he'll be more than fine. Obviously I doubt he'll have the command Romo does as a rookie, but I think we have the pieces around him.

Less then ideal.

Crazy thought:

Normally, the teams that need a rookie QB to be the starter are the teams that sucked the year before. Hence, why many of those teams picked in the top of the draft and took the best QB they could.

We sucked last year because our starting QB and WR went down, on top of miscalculating the RB position. To compound it further, we had a tough schedule and still managed to lose close games with a gaggle of 3rd-rate QB2s. We we're/are far from a 4-12 team. So, we are not a typical situation where a rookie comes in and has to carry the team on his back like the Browns, Rams, Titans, etc. Like the OP said, there isn't a more QB friendly set-up than what we v.

The strange part of this, is that we are not relying on a 1st round QB. This is a late 4th rd QB that many teams passed on. This all the more makes this a unique situation. To top it off, we have also added a phenomenal RB in the draft (Zeke) and on in FA (Morris). I say roll with it. I'm at a point, as a fan, that I'd like to see something new. If we suck, we suck, but this has quickly become a major shake-up that will show its worth soon enough. It's scary times, sure, but it was scary times after Aikman. There was just no convincing anyone that we could find the next guy. Let's just roll.

I am not ready to give up on Romo, but this offense has been JINKED since the Romo bobble the FG attempt in Seattle (2007). DAK and Zeke bring youth, excitement and a chance to bring some young blood to this offense.

The offense will be fine, there will be some growing pains but it is a chance to bring some excitement to a team that is in dire need of some good luck.....Are we looking at the new triplets, DAK, ZEKE, BRYANT

I'm not happy with it because Prescott has to show that he can read blitzes and the book against the Cowboys has been to blitz them because we only begrudgingly utilize hot reads.

I'm also not happy with it for Prescott's development. There's so many things to learn and work on when you're a rookie QB and that's why I favor ANY rookie QB sitting for a year. The only QB's I can think of that started their rookie year and in the end benefited from it, IMO, was Roethlisberger and Wilson Only because they won a Super Bowl in their 2nd season and that may not have happened if they rode the bench.

But, all of the other QB's that started as rookies and flamed out I tend to think they may have had a chance if they sat out their rookie year.

It's just a lot to learn for any QB coming into the league and then you start to get the QB more in the mode of focusing on what they need to do to get some wins and survive instead of actually working on meaningful things long term like throwing mechanics, learning the playbooks, getting used to the speed of the game, recognizing defenses, developing anticipation, etc.

The positives is that the 2 QB's I mentioned that I think benefited from starting as rookies....Dak has some similarities to in terms of style. They were mobile QB's that threw well outside of the pocket. The big difference is that they had ferocious defenses backing them up.

But, this is where we'll see Garrett's ability as a coach. He's had 1 year under his belt without Tony and if he's a good coach, he should learn from his mistakes from last season. And if he's a good coach, he should be able to protect Dak, particularly with this supporting cast...and play to his strengths and shy away from his weaknesses.

There are some things that pique my interest about Dak playing this year. His throwing the ball in preseason has been spectacular. He's got enormous hands, not only good for holding onto the ball and throwing the ball in bad weather (something Romo isn't great at), but those big hands with great throwing motion mechanics and footwork can lead to some incredible passing compared to a similar QB with smaller hands. I also like his running ability, his ability to throw screen passes and perhaps we can modernize this offense with more RPO's.

I think our season is now coming down to our health on offense, our play from our TE's and our play from the safeties. If those are good, I think Dak can do a great ob and we can win a lot of game.s If those aren't good, it's going to be a rough season...again.

And hopefully, anybody with a room temperature IQ can put the 'I think Tony has 5 more years left in him' to rest, once and for all.

What a great post. And again, I truly do believe Dak can be successful in this offense. He's not a rookie QB trying to carry a garbage team. This is a top notch O line with lots of good skill players to boot.

Look no further than the Commanders and RG3 his rookie season and we have more Talent I expect some decent results
Yeah, but we have Garrett. He will go the conservative route and game plan like Weeden and Cassel are playing. He will put it on defense to hold on for the win in the 4th quarter.

Actually more concerned with what the coaches think of having a rookie QB. I don't want to see any more of this garbage where the only task the QB is given is to avoid screwing up. Let him play. To be a starter in the NFL, your QB is going to have to make some plays and step up to the plate. No designated hitters in the NFL. Gonna have to step up get the job done every once in a while.

Dak seems like a cool under pressure player this season will be better than last season Dak is going to surprise some people but he needs to learn to slide no finishing off runs like that last one

I look at it like all the other teams that have young promising qbs. It's time to build around him and let Dak's era begin. Do I feel like we'll compete? Sure. Do I feel like we'll compete for a sb? No, no I dont.

But if Dak performs well then that'll be worth It I suppose. Especially with all the young players we have that will be part of his era.

BAT I am sorry but this is BS

So it's not Romo and his audibles and ability to extend plays that fuel this offense? Are you saying it's been Jason's play calling, in game adjustments or player development instead?

Garrett has been unable to generate winning seasons, period, minus 2014. Without Romo in lineup, he's had an even worse winning percentage.

For Dak and the Cowboys sake, I hope he's learned to be a better HC. But his story, his futility, is not my imagination.

It's not a recipe for a super bowl.

But.

In lieu of Romo, what I've seen from Dak makes me want him in there more than any of the FA vets out there. He looks good enough to keep the wheels on while he figures the NFL out. I hope.

First, let me make it clear that in my opinion this IS Romo's team. I'm as enthusiastic about Dak as anyone, but losing Romo is just sickening to me.

Now, with that being said, I truly believe that Dak can at the very least keep our season alive. This is a rookie with poise and composure, who will be lining up with-

1) Arguably the best O line in the league.
2) HOF TE
3) Elite WR
4) VERY solid slot receiver.
5) Blue chip rookie RB.
6) VERY solid veteran RB to backup the guy mentioned above.
7) An offense that has proven they can be elite in the running game.

If any offense can provide an environment for a rookie QB to succeed in, I think it's this one. And I think Dak is the type of rookie who has the appropriate skill set and intangibles to succeed in said offense.

It's a weird situation to be in as a fan. Losing Romo makes me nauseous. But, I am more than a little curious to see how Dak looks behind our O line and with all of our other toys at his disposal.

Thoughts?
I think it's great.

Agreed. This is the time to see if he's the next face of the franchise or not. I'd like to see the play calling quickly ramped up to what they'd give Tony.
