But you’re comparing Dak after 2 years, to the best QB to probably ever play the game.
Of course he isn’t as good as Tom Brady. But that doesn’t mean he can’t or shouldn’t be the cowboys QB of the future either.
I didn't write the blog, and for the record I didn't say that Dak shouldn't be our QB. Romo had his best statistical year in the same run heavy offense that Dak is playing in. I got accused of being biased against Dak for making some pretty basic points, which apparently means saying anything to suggest that he isn't a top 5 QB right now.
In my opinion, 2017 was tougher because people realized that Dak couldn't attack the sidelines 10-20 yards downfield. So instead of protecting against the bigger plays they started to double Beasley and Witten inside and squeeze in on those WR 'IN' routes. When is the last time you have seen one of our WR's have to drag his feet on the sideline?? It rarely rarely happens and I see those plays all the time on other teams. It made things a lot tougher for the passing game and that's why everyone fell off at once.
So what I will looking out for in 2018 are those mid-range sideline throws, which take touch and accuracy. If Dak has added that to his game then I'll feel pretty good about our chances with him long term. Certainly he will be good enough to win a super bowl, just as Romo was. We don't need a HOF QB to win. If Dak can't make those throws though, I'd feel uncomfortable spending 20 million a year on him. He does bring a lot to the table in other ways and with Zeke and our offensive line it could be enough. But for me its a harder call to spend franchise money on a QB who can't make all the throws.
So from where I'm sitting the the blog post is click bait and a complete distortion of where Dak is as a QB right now.
