Dak vs Rush against Zone Defense

Whats the word on Dak vs Cooper playing against zone defense up to this point?

Or...have teams being trying to fluster Cooper with Blitz to hurry him up and havent thrown much Zone at him?

I ask because...if Zone if Daks kryptonite...and Rush displays better zone beating ability...would you not roll with Rush with a defense like Dallas performing the way it is? Seems like this defense could take you to the promise land.

I am all for Dak being given the opportunity to prove himself against zone again. But if the constant talk on here is true about Dak being awful against zone...then you know defenses are going to throw that at him non-stop in playoffs. If that was the case but Rush displays better zone beating skills...would you not roll with Rush?

I assume Rush hasnt been hit with tons of zone yet to know if he is capable or not?

Two high safeties isn’t necessarily zone. It’s not zone that Dak struggles to beat. He struggles beating 7 guys in coverage. Whether it’s man or zone. Dak is good vs the blitz but hasn’t been able to adjust to the two high safety look teams are now throwing out there across the entire league. And it’s not just Dak that is struggling vs that defense, many other qbs are as well. This team knows it needs to run the ball well , that’s how you get these defenses out of these 2 high looks. That’s what Dallas needs to do.

Thank you for the response. You made it easy to understand.

If you had all the info on the situation(Dak vs Rush capabilities and flaws) with a defense performing like ours...would you roll with which ever one is better at beating the 2 High look in playoffs? Or do you roll with your 40M starter even if he might not have learned to beat the 2 High look yet?

Basically my question is with our defense(assuming it is top 5 in league leading up to playoffs) do you go for a Championship with the player that has shown to beat the 2 High look better which you would assume gives you a better shot at a SB? Or do you roll with your starter?

This is a scenario where if coaches believe Rush is better decision maker against 2 High than Dak.

So we’re saying we need an alternating QB system? /s

Nah. Just saying with a defense like we have...do you roll with Dak if he doesnt figure it out by Playoffs or do you roll with Rush if he displays ability to pass on 2 High?

Kind of highlighting the difficulties Front Offices are faced with. This is assuming Rush is better than Dak vs 2 High and its assuming we have a Championship level defense.

Scoring is way down ..this defense + shorter TC is the big reason.

Good question.

Any pro QB shouldn't get shut down by a two high look. Sure, maybe he's not having success down the field against that but those safeties playing the deep ball are also not defending the short medium. The combination of man and zone played by the other 4 or 5 pass defenders will present openings to make a play but this requires the QB to anticipate and throw the ball to an area and not the numbers on the receivers jersey.

If a team is truly "dropping 7 into coverage" the QB should be regularly be making them pay by tucking and running against the 5 on 4 matchup in the trenches.

It seems to me that Rush is much better in the area of finding those openings in the zones and giving the receiver a chance to make a play. I believe this a very important distinction between the two QB's and a vital element to being a great QB.

Having said that, it is not the only element required to be a great QB and I honestly don't know which QB I would roll with. I could make a case for either of them, but I would much prefer to find the one I really want.

If you don’t know what to do when the defense shows you a 2 high look in your 7th year as QB in the NFL and you’re making 40 million yearly then you’re making 37 million too much and have no business starting in the NFL

our back up is leading WRs and throwing with better anticipation than the starter

let that sink in

Hater, when dak is back with the new big toe put on his hand where his thumb was and starts making some throws you will be sorry.

Apparently its not that easy. Supposedly a lot of QB's are having issues with it. I am just going by what is routinely mentioned on this board. I dont study film or know what to look at.
Is Dak the problem...or are a lot of QBs having trouble with this look DC's are using against passing teams?

Also...I have read here that teams started blitzing Rush to see if that would work since he doesnt play much and would maybe get rattled with being hurried...supposedly Rush beat the Blitz so teams will start zoning/2 High/whatever against him. If that is true...has Rush shown ability to beat zone/2 High/whatever yet?

Hes NOT lmao

4 game sample size vs 60..jeez people of course the mirage is coop is better the level of defense teams and regularity in which player can be judged is the difference. lmao these posts keep getting lower IQ points by the minute,

perspective

4 games and the teams rush has faced and the play calls have been the reason it appears better,,its NOT.

- Kellen seems more committed to running.. (and stay with running the ball with Cooper Rush,) ..than what he will with Dak.

- If this was Dak, instead of Cooper, ..Kellen would be so determined to pass happy Dak out of his funk to regain his self-confidence and rhythm.

- if teams are determined to keep dropping zones and defenders back, then hurt the opposing defenses upfront. Make them commit to 8 man in the box with the safeties up.

Here is a quick breakdown of zone coverage each team has played against the Cowboys so far, per PFF.

Tampa - 80% zone coverage
Cincinnati - 67% zone coverage
NY - 55% zone coverage
Washington - 82% zone coverage

The average around the league is some form of zone defense on about 70% snaps this year. It's just a zone based league anymore, no real getting around it. The team that plays the most is the Rams, coming in at close to zone on 90% of their snaps, so that will be something to watch this week. The only team in the league to play more man coverage than zone has been Detroit FWIW.

I base my opinion on the individual examples that see with my own eyes. The opposition, the play call nor the sample size have anything to with it. Win or lose doesn't even have anything to do with the individual examples that tell the tale.

Unless of course you're an apologists with blinders on which have you looking for excuses rather than what is actually happening.

you go with the guy that gives the team the best chance at winning a Super Bowl. That’s Dak.

What exactly did I lose? LOL

I have heard many many of the "experts" you mention agree with me and many others on the one specific point that I made and is the topic of this thread.

You can go ahead and get emotional, conflating the above to a much broader topic, then beat your chest shouting about you won some contest that only exists in your mind.... but you can do it with someone else. Buzz off.
