Dak vs Wentz

The best team doesn't always win the Super Bowl. The hottest team usually wins the Super Bowl. That was the Eagles in the 2017 playoffs.

I believe the 2017 Cowboys had better talent, but the Eagles had a better coach, Zeke was suspended 6 games, Dak had his worst season, and things just didn't go our way. It happens.

The Eagles were not the best team in 2017, but they got hot at the right time. That matters. The 2007 Giants say hi!
better talent is highly subjective.....

Some people just can't help themselves from bringing up Wentz to somehow make Dak look better. Dak is playing very well this season and Wentz is off to his best personal start of his career. What's the difference as they play for different teams in different conferences.
Some people just can’t help themselves. Doing everything they can to make Prescott a non-issue. The kid is a winner.

Wentz had the upper hand in this until his injury. Understandable that since then Dak has been the better and more durable QB. Would be interesting to see what happens to Wentz in Indy over the next few years.

Can the kid win something before calling him a "winner"?

That's all I ask. He's playing great, but a "winner" is not what I would call him yet.

At least no one on this forum felt this way… wait

They did, but considering we've all probably done the same with different players over the years, some of us don't see the need to say, "I told you so." There's generally a lot of crow-eating around here because fans feel a need to compare for some reason or make blanket statements about a player before all the evidence is in.

So you cant make your comment make sense? Again if your going on what if's and opinions just say that...Fact is Wentz team won a SB WITHOUT him playing in the playoffs at all..so the facts are that Eagles teams talent was so good it won a SB wityh the backup QB....those are the facts...

The only time I recall seeing Wentz's name brought up is when contract negotiations were going on for Dak and people were saying, when it was reported that Dak wanted top tier QB money, that Dak should be in the range of Wentz and Goff as that is where his career was at the time.

Is Dak playing better than Wentz and Goff right now? Absolutely. Is Wentz off to his best start in spite of injuries? Absolutely. Is Goff showing himself a below average QB right now? Absolutely.

So not sure why the need to look backwards but to each their own.

Earlier in Wentz career, I thought he was a better pure touch passer than Dak.
Prescott was still developing as a pure NFL passer, and was probably seen more as a bus driver type at the time, than the passing machine he's become now.

In fairness, i thought Wentz was never given the WRs talent like we acquired, in fact the Eagles even tried to out-bid us for Amari Cooper.
And guys like Alshon Jeffries and retread Desean Jackson proved toast, and they mis-drafted for slot oriented guys like Nelson Agular and Jalen Reagor.
They worked far more off the work of their TEs,

That didn’t help Wentz at all, …but then the rest of his game just really crumbled.
- He held ball for tons of unnecessary sacks,
- He had frequent turnover filled games.
- He was often injured
- He rarely pushed the ball vertically.
- And he had major accuracy issues.
- And he could not rally and make teammates (and coaches) In Philly believe in him anymore.

He’s in a much better situation in Indy, with a run game, better OL, a familiar coach, but he’s still has the look of a serviceable bus driver QB.

Sorry I have to disagree.

that eagles team had the best offensive line in the NFL. Their defense was very good. Their pass rush was one of the best in the league. Their running game I believe was #2 overall.

Ertz was one of the best tight ends in the game that year.

That 2017 eagles team was stacked with talent.

Yes and thats proven by the fact..THEY WON THE SB with a backup QB...apparently that kinda lucky streak happens all the time!...

Which one? He's been injured since he was slapped on the butt from Mom's doctor. And what year did he win rookie of the year? I mean he had the "Upper Hand" you say.
:lmao2:Meanwhile In Indy....GO WENTZIE

Straw man comparison or argument

How’s bout we compare Dakota to Joe Burrow if we want to have a non fictional discussion...

In all seriousness.

I don’t think Wentz is a bad QB.

he can be kind of streaky. Doesn’t do well if he is not well protected. But Wentz can play really well at times.

Dak is better than Wentz though. And it’s not that close.

I will say. The eagles trading Wentz for Hurts. Could be a huge mistakes. Hurts ain’t the guy and we will see how long it takes them to find a franchise guy.

I hope the eagles ride the QB carousel for a long time.

And i tend to wonder if the Wentz demand trade fiasco plays a major part in Deshaun Watson not wanting to be traded there. Per reports.
Is it just something about the Philly atmosphere that feels Houston Texans-like ?

Wentz doesn't have a playoff win, you mean like that kind of winner? The one thing he's consistently good at is getting injured and being unavailable.

The Prescott shade is embarrassing.

:hammer:

Right. Defenses are a part of supporting casts as well as coaches. So this notion that Dak had a "stacked team" when we all sit here and talk about how bad the defense has been and how bad Garrett was? Yeah I don’t know…

So if this is true why does Sam Darnold stink? He has a good supporting cast and defense…shouldn’t he be doing better than he is?
Doesn't mean that 100% of QBs are going to hit, just a higher percentage will succeed in a better situation. We can get into the debate of does starting out in a bad situation scar a qb for the rest of their career, but the answer ultimately is probably that it depends. Odds are that Darnold just isn't quite good enough for this level, but you can still have the Tannehill type examples on the other end.

Dak playing like a top 5 QB isn't just a matter of his surroundings, but him starting off with a strong team around him certainly helped his development. I'm not convinced that if Dak went to the Browns in 2016 he is making $40 Million a year right now. Had he gone to New England, Pittsburgh, KC, even Philly he may have a Super Bowl by now. Instead he ended up with the Cowboys which was somewhere in between. Player development matters. Organizational competency matters.
