That’s going to be a must watch. I love the music in the trailer.
Yeah I’m not taking that bait.

I hope you do watch it.

Let me know how you feel when Jerry says.

Keep em talking

And my personal favourite

On field results aren’t important.

Since it is that time of summer when nothing is going on so why not another thread on Dak's contract?

This article points out what I have been saying since the deal was announced. Jerry gave Dak the worse possible contract from the team's perspective. It's $5 million more per year than what it should be. It comes with a no trade clause and a no franchise tag clause - and it is only 4 years making it more difficult of spread out the bonus money and restructures.

There was no need to do this deal with Dak. At some point a smart team sees that the player's demands far exceed his performance value and they decide to move on. Jerry really struggles assessing a player's value.

But it is also important to note that Jerry gave away all his leverage with Dak's previous contract. He never should have agreed to a no trade clause. But that is still no excuse. Sure Dallas could have lost Dak to free agency, but is overpaying him by at least $5 million per year worth keeping him?

I also dislike the argument that were are no alternatives. I do agree finding a QB is hard in the NFL. We've been down that path before. But maybe the alternative is to do something different. Build a strong defense. Build a strong running game. Find a game manager and let him keep the team in games while you continue the search for the next franchise guy. At some point Dak will be retiring anyway. At some point they will have to start a new QB search. Better now than to be handcuffed by a contracts worth well more than the QB you are playing.
Why rehash all the gory details. It's a horrible deal for the team. I don't get why you are doing this.

This is the part I don't understand......he could have STILL made Dak the highest paid at $56M. Tells me Jerry either panic, or was too lazy to go through the process.
.....whilst Jerry undoubtably panicked (fearing the cost if Dak hit FA), the actual final figure (AND length of contract AND NTC) was down to France pushing Jerry. Jerry should be ashamed of the contract and if we had an independent media he'd be forced to answer for that deal..... a deal which he overpaid/got played on EVERY concession.

Because we should face up to our mistakes (especially when Jerry's potentially going to repeat the "assume the position" routine with Micah).

I’m not defending the deal, but keep in mind….

-They wouldn’t have spent the savings on improving the team, and if they did, you’d likely not notice 5m.

-The no trade clause doesn’t much matter. They couldnt just blindside him with a trade unless he knows about it and approves anyway. No team is trading for a QB who doesn’t want to be there.

-They should have just given him a Mahomes deal from the beginning. Jerry wanted to see more leaves fall, Dak failed, and he paid him again and again anyway. France had them over a barrel every time and knew it.
Dak wouldn't take a long term deal like Mahomes. He insisted on 4 years the first time and then again this time. Jerry got nothing.

Micah is a much better player than Dak, but he is not the best Edge in the league so he does not deserve the highest contract. Jerry waited and he will sign Micah for about $41 million. Had he signed him after the season ended he probably could have gotten him for about $36 million. Imagine if Jerry let's Micah leave for free agency after paying to keep Dak.

Rodgers has one Superbowl tied to his name. So I can't say what he brings to the table is hard to find.
If we are told that winning a Superbowl is a team sport then obviously QB's can no longer be gauged by how many SB's they won. No one in their right mind would look at Rodgers skill and say that he was somehow lesser than Eli Manning or Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson. If we were to guage Rodgers on the same scale that I presented we'd be hard pressed to say that he wasn't closer to Brady in terms of pure skill and tenacity than he was to Sam Darnold now would we?

There is no cult. And it’s not the $60 million per year. Prescott’s contract is a constant reminder that Jerry Jones is not a good GM in the contemporary NFL. That’s what fans resent. Pretending such is not the case annoys real fans even more.

Another team in the Cowboys’ division goes to two and wins a Super Bowl with a quarterback that isn’t as highly regarded as Prescott and Cowboys fans are left with the knowledge the team’s owner peels off $60 million AAV to Dak and so is obviously too stupid to build a roster that can compete for a Super Bowl. Pollyanna Cowboys fans whine when another fan shows their disdain.

It’s not Dak Prescott. It’s what he represents. Real fans are honest about it. What everyone really hates is that MoutaineerCowboy is right. It’s every Cowboys fans’ cross to bear.
This is old news and your high priest loves to get his cronies riled up. Lol....you actually defend that guy. I guess you want us to lose too.

That is the case because finding someone better would’ve been very difficult but some of you just don’t seem to get that. Some of you act like real good QBs grow on trees. Had we let Dak walk after the 2020 season we might have ended up with Justin Fields and would’ve had to trade up to get him because he was taken one spot ahead of Parsons. Fields has already proven he was a mistake. We would have ended up with him and passed up generational player. We would likely still be struggling trying to find a QB. Glad fans like you don’t run the team.
Yes, finding top QBs is tough, but every team has to face this challenge from time to time. Dak is going to retire someday and Dallas will be forced to find his replacement. I think teams have to stick to value vs cost. Dak's value was never equal to his cost. Not on his first deal and not on his current deal.

See the first line of my post.

I saw the article and thought people might want to discuss it since it is a slow news period of the off-season. Nobody has to click on it if they seen it before.

Referring more to Jerry's the forthcoming capitulation in the 'negotiations', rather than Micah's abilities/worth.

Every agent knows how to play Jerry....i'm not even certain whether its Jerry waiting until the last moment to sign, or it's the agents confident in their ability to get the better deal, if they hold out.

Well im just trying to stay within the narrative around here that quarterbacks are judged by post season results solely.

Dak's contract makes sense on zero levels. Pretty much ensures that we won't see playoff success for at least the next 3 yrs. Dak proved beyond any doubt that his own greed is more important to him than anything else, especially winning. And then add in that the next two QB contracts were more in the 55 mil range. This one contract alone should have completely squelched any Jerry support left.

At least one of Dak’s fans admitted on here (I have the bookmark) that they would rather Dak be paid than the Cowboys be able to compete.
I don't doubt it. Basically, if a fan approves of Dak's contract then they are not interested in winning. There's no middle ground here, you either want us to win or you like Dak's contract. No, it cannot be both.

So you're OK w/ losing because of how we would've spent the extra? Not me.

Yep thats true, but that was after being tagged twice and was close to free agency, so he gained a lot of leverage.

He probably would have been more receptive to something a little more team friendly if the FO didn’t drag their feet.

Jerry thinks “people do their best with their back to the wall.” That’s probably what he was thinking with Prescott….’show me.’

He failed, but still gave him the bag, all while working himself into having nearly no leverage…twice. If he was unsure on Prescott as his rookie deal was expiring, fine, but nothing happened to change his mind for the better, so what was the point, so you can hang to the bonus money and invest it elsewhere? That conflict of interest is a huge problem.

For the record I’m fairly indifferent on Prescott and his contract, but it was definitely mishandled by the FO and more than once. Then again, overpaying the QB is a fine excuse to not bother with free agency, so Jerry wins either way. The fans lose.

It’s a cult for sure.
