the cap hit 59M. the cash payout is 34M and so they can take the 34 M and pay 30M up front and add years and some meaningless numbers to those years that would have minimal guarantees. if he gets paid in March.
I'm aware of how the cap hits can be manipulated with conversion to up front bonus allowing that to be spread over the remaining years under contract.

BUT

You really think Dak is going to just go along with "adding years' to his existing contract to help the team manage the cap? That's ìnsane.

According to Fox Sports, Dak's cap hit is $59M which would an NFL record. With Parsons eligible and deserving of a hugh contract in 2024 and Zack Martin wanting to be paid as the best guard , it will be interesting to see who Jerry pays and who he doesn't.
You daks contract guys have never been right ever about his cap hit any year.

You're right that 59 won't be the actual cap hit next year, but the only way "years get added" is if team Dak and team Cowboys agree to an extension/new contract. If you think Dak is adding years without getting compensated at market value, you’re nuts.

Sooner or later the piper is getting paid. The only question is how long do you want him to fiddle with his flute before you take the hit.
I did mention, that more money can get added but not greatly, but the kicker to sweeten the deal is the 30M up front. that's very attractive to any player.

see my other response. if you are only giving out 5-10M in bonus up front, then no, I want more money and more guaranteed money. if you are throwing in 30M, then ok, I am more flexible.

Those who don’t like Dak WANT to pay him 59 million next year, no matter what it does to the cap, no matter how bad we struggle next season, and no matter who we lose in FA because of it.
Paying Dak 59 million next year means he’s finished in Dallas and we will start a new QB in 2024.
Sounds good to me....where do I sign?

According to Google, his net worth is 70 million. WHY do you need any more money?
That’s exactly the question that the homeless guy/gal who lives in a cardboard box asks of the person who makes $150k per year…What the heck do you need so much money for?!

so who are you going to put in there that would make us better?

if there is a better options lets go.

Please don't say Rush :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao2::lmao2::lmao2::lmao2:
Once again, we could have made the deal for Aaron Rodgers, told Dak he is no longer the starter, Dak then waves his no trade clause, we get some compensation for Dak to help offset some of what we gave up for Rodgers, been free of Dak's contract, and had a shot to win it all this year with a QB who has actually gotten it done before and knows what it takes.

Your comparison is flawed at best. 150K is a lot closer to zero than it is 70 million.

I am finally starting to believe that Jerry is going to make Dak earn his extension and it’s the right thing To do. I hope Dak earns it and think it’s about 50/50 he does.

If Dak needs Zack to protect him from another disaster, he should give up some of his millions to Jerry so Zack can be extended. Brady did things like that because winning SB's was more important than wealth.

There's very little chance his cap hit will be 59mil before the start of the 2024 season or shortly after it starts, with the way the FO moves.

It'll be extended to drop the cap hit.
Jerry can only kick the cap can so far down the road till it's time to pay up.
cap is manipulated and money always pushed to the future, until the team blows up and you take dead caps in one or two years and rebuild.

so I am not worried about the 59M being an actual number we have to meet next year. it will be reduced, years added and would allow the dead cap hits to be more pallarable.
Kicking the can down the road can bit teams. And at some point, the remaining cost of the contract will count against cap space. If you restructure too many contracts, you will get jammed up at some point.
And what does pallarable mean?

For sure.
The prorated cap from restructuring his current deal is as follows:
24:24.5mil
25:24.5mil
26: 11mil.

If he's extended, the new contract base+bonuses will be on top of the above. And since they are prorated bonus cap hits, they can't be reduced.
So, his next contract at least at first won't be a cheap deal cap hit wise. I'd assume the Jones duo would want Dak to take a deal closer to Herberts with roster options(fully guaranteed) that can be converted to signing bonus that select year than do another huge signing bonus up front with more prorated cap hit up front.
