Dak at his best isn’t a top ten QB. I hope he never plays again. I can’t stand the sight of him acting like he is a top tier player. The gap between Dak and (Mahomes, Allen, Burrow) is huge. He should not be making half of what those three are paid!

Dak's contract is merely a legal form.

Jerry Jones's procrastination in getting the deal done is what screwed us.

The random probability of a QB going down in such a fashion is what screwed us.

The belief by Cowboys management that a 30 year old Dak Prescott could withstand the physical demands of a QB with a weak O-line and laughable running game is what screwed us.

Dak didn't plan on signing his contract and missing half the season due to injury. He did not screw us and his contract hasn't budged from the drawer in which it has been filed away so it definitely didn't screw us.

However, NFL games on pay-only TV....?

The script writers for the 8th season of Game of Thrones...?

Car 8-track players...?

The referees that made the no-catch decision during the Packer division playoff game in 2014 season....?
Dak could have agreed to a realistic contract before free agency and maybe he'd have Derrick Henry and someone on the OL. Not that signing him at all was the play.

The Cowboys front office still would not have signed Derrick Henry even if Dak took less. And also could have decided to let Dak go and draft a QB, if their intentions and wishes was that strong to spend more money signing some of the better free agency players. They would find a way one way or the other if they really wanted to.

It's even more painful when you see how other teams manage to get out of quarterback arrangements that didn't suit them yet we all know Prescott will still be here in 2-3 years. Demolishing.

It probably has something to do with the fact that he started for all four seasons while playing on his 4th round rookie contract as the Cowboys went 40-24. In his first season he started from Game #1 and made OROY.

The Cowboys went to the playoffs twice and Dak made the Pro Bowl twice on a contract that was considered the best bargain in the entire league.

I suspect that Dak Prescott feels as though he performed at an extreme discount for four years and it's somebody else's turn to do some sacrificing.

During the past two contract negotiations, Jerry and his media minions have consistently failed to mention that perspective.

Dak has been accused of being greedy. He may justify it as balancing the scale.

The Cowboys drafted him in the 4th round. Flip side of the coin is that Prescott should be thankful he joined loaded rosters especially on offense which completely masked his actual limited ability. Any other rookie QB couldn't have dreamed of playing behind a better o line and run game.

He could have also played better in big games at college or not entered the draft with an alleged DUI in which case he gets drafted earlier and paid more money.

That great offense of loaded talent was ranked 31st in scoring with a 4-12 record the previous season.

Most 2016 draft redo's had Dak as the #1 overall pick. I'm sure that has changed at this specific point in time but he's still at the top.

I'm not disagreeing with you or this perspective, actually. I'm not trying to be his "agent".

If I was Dak how would I feel about it? You remember the same wasn't true for his teammate, Zeke. They were drafted the same year.

Zeke got the big "top-5" rookie contract. Then, he holds out after three seasons and gets "the bag" a year early.

Deep down inside, don't you think that messed with Dak's head for four years? Put yourself in his shoes.

I just think that is, at least, part of the answer to why Dak would never take a discount for another player, justified or not.

It’s not Dak’s responsibility to assess any player’s value except his own. Dak has been with the Cowboys long enough to know the team’s owner is not aggressive in the free agent market. Only an idiot would consider giving Jerry Jones a discount to sign players he will never sign.

Jerry Jones offered Dak Prescott the contract he agreed to. Cowboys fans are angry the team’s quarterback is smart enough to hire representation smarter than the team’s owner. Prescott is here, he’ll be the quarterback of the Cowboys for the foreseeable future, and all the whining and angry posts in the world is not going to change it. The Cowboys have a decent quarterback and a bad owner. It’s the cross Cowboys fans will continue to bear for years.

People can criticize Dak for his play and they can judge him for his salary demands, but there is only one person that screwed the Cowboys with that contract and he's not a player or a coach.

Dak did not force the team to offer him that contract. The team chose to do that. The decision was theirs to make and live with, and now they are.
Like I said before, they paid the man, now it's time to pay the fiddler!
And that's what we're doing, we're paying the fiddler!

The Cowboys had some of the worst quarterbacks I can remember filling in for Romo in 2015. They lost a lot of close games and let's face it, the 2016 team was more about Zeke than Dak. Further, the o line was the best in the league along with the Raiders from memory. Dez, Witten, Beasley in the slot.

We have seen Prescott with a less talented team around him and his actual true worth and value to the team and it isn't $60 million a season.

I would honestly have been grateful for the Cowboys drafting me into such a favourable rookie QB friendly offense. Zeke was justifiable a 1st round pick.

If I was Prescott I would have again been very thankful to the owner paying me $160 over 4 years with almost all of it guaranteed after a horrific leg injury - this more than made up for any supposed back pay.

Jerry will double down on his error and extend his cap hits even further down the road. These are not smart football people making these decisions. It is all about the bottom line on how much more money can they bring in.
It's really so obvious, especially this year. SAD days for DC fans for sure. JJ the grinch. Thanks man!!!

We could continue and neither of us would be wrong.

I'm playing the devil's advocate in trying to determine his mindset when it came to lowering demands for additional talent on the team. I'm not agreeing with it, I'm just saying that this might be his justification.

I didn't express any personal opinion, just stated facts to use them to come to a conclusion. Of course, that part still has some opinion and it wouldn't be the 1st or 1000th time I was wrong.

All the whiners in this thread would not turn down 100 million plus under any circumstance. Don't believe the low brow "for the team" bs spouted here. Leave money on the table for the worst GM in football to distribute? Yeah right.

Dak's Contract screwed us!

I have been a Dak fan an supported him overall, yet his new contract is so dumb (dumb, dumb, dumb). Let him play it out and then sign him if he does something.

Seriously, We sacrificed drafting a QB in the top 10 and actually having options or being forced to ride with him for the next 3 years with hard cap hits. Parsons and his big mouth, No OL help, No RB help, no DL to stop the run, and hoping a new coach in the next 2 years wants to even try.

What do we have? Diggs, and Lamb are the only building blocks we have.

I am sad, and never have I been this down on the team.

Again, I was never a Dak hater and still not, but you don't extend him.

I have a car loan right now. I would not re-finance it unless the interest allows me to pay it off sooner without sacrificing the age of the loan.
I for one am glad you brought this up. The CZ has ignored Dakchoka's extension and the effect his contract has upon us.
Thanks for raising the issue and the alarm.

I don’t hate Dak for seeking to maximize his compensation; there is not one of us here who wouldn’t attempt to do the same in our respective occupations. Do I think his play justifies his contract? I don’t, but that is not the issue.
I blame Jerry for signing Dak to a $60 MM per year contract without making him try to earn it; Dak couldn’t get it done at $40 MM per year and add to that his horrid play in the GB playoff loss. Moreover, Jerry had 8 years to develop an exit strategy in the event the organization wanted to move on from Dak…but Jerry’s ego, arrogance, ignorance or whatever you want to call it prohibited him from doing so.
Exactly……like any of us would not demand top dollar from our employers if we could get away with it.

So no, I don’t blame Dak for squeezing every last penny out of Jerry, blame Jerry for agreeing to that ridiculous contract.

The problem is that not giving Dak a new deal would look like Jerry made a mistake, and that can’t happen.

Like anybody here would willingly turn down a big raise from their employer.

Your employer offers you a 20k raise for next year, you saying no, I will take only half of that and be happy.

I highly doubt it…….Like I said, I don’t blame Dak for cashing in, I blame Jerry for offering that ridiculous contract to begin with.

I agree that they never should have signed Dak to that amount.

However, it wouldn't be necessary if the Cowboys had been serious about providing reasonable competition from a younger player on a rookie contract.

I noted that the Cowboys drafted 5 QB's over the past 23 seasons at the same time the Patriots drafted 11. The Cowboys went as high as the 4th round That was it

Despite having the GOAT, the Patriots drafted a QB every other year as an average. They drafted in the top 3 rounds a few times.

What made it worse was this was a repeat from the previous contract and Jerry learned nothing.

The Cowboys should be drafting viable competition every three years, not just 7th round projects and camp bodies.

We all saw it a mile away but Jerry procrastinated because he wanted to prove he was a savvy negotiator. He gets stripped naked every time.
