I don't blame Dak at all for him being paid what he's paid annually. I certainly would not take a discount at my job to put more talented analysts, interns, and coordinators around me. I would just make a dignified attempt to up my game and be better every day. A concept that Dak preaches, but as of now, has yet to follow through on.

At the end of the day, I really do not think any of it matters. The Jones boys couldn't field a Super Bowl caliber team when he was making $800,000 a year. Thinking that Dak would take a pay cut and they'd go out and spend money in FA to put better pieces around him is a fools errand. If they freed up cap space tomorrow, they'd just extend Micah, Tyler Smith, and maybe Aubrey.

Literally everything we predicted at the end of last season has been true
1. The window closed after the Green Bay game, and the team needed to rebuild
2. Paying Dak was a bad idea because he can’t even be mediocre with average talent around him, and you can’t get good talent with a highly paid qb
3. The GM was probably going to make the mistake of paying Dak and keeping nostalgic players (Zeke, Martin) and bury this team for 5 years

Welcome to Jerry purgatory. This next 5 years will be awful

Bait and switch. Was Jerry the problem last week when you guys were touting "a win is a win"? If that's the case, it was really stupid to pay Dak because we still have Jerry AND The Choker.
I told you guys it was dumb to pay Dak I told yall to rebuild months ago.

Dak's selfishness has doomed us

I don't think so.

Jerry's willingness to to overpay mediocre to average players has doomed the Dallas Cowboys football team.

Jerry's stubbornness and inability to admit he's in over his head as a General Manager has doomed the Dallas Cowboys football team.

Jerry's propensity to hire puppet coaches has doomed the Dallas Cowboys football team.

Jerry's unspoken motto "Brand Over Football" has doomed the Dallas Cowboys football team.

what a stupid thread. Jerry Jones is the culprit look no further than him. I get not liking a player because he doesn't perform up to what you feel standards are for his salary. We have known for sometime what Dak is and who Dak is. Jerry didn't have to capitulate. And Dak is not the biggest issue with this team contrary to what the haters tell you. I get players trying to cash in when they can. Jerry caves to every one famous and that sells the brand always has always will.

Wow, was that an ***-kicking
I lost a ton of respect for Dak...
His selfishness has screwed us (and himself).
Mahomes and Brady did it right...
They took smaller deals and allowed others to be paid properly, and got a better team around them.
Now Dak is even more exposed than ever.

His chance of winning a Superbowl is now even more remote than ever.

Mahomes is what, the 14 or 15th highest paid QB, and yet is the #1 QB in the league.

Dak is the highest paid QB, yet probably the 14 or 15th best QB in the league... and dropping

Go figure.
It has nothing to do with Dak, Dak isn’t a Brady or Mahomes talent yet Jerry offered him the money, who wouldn’t take it. Jerry views contracts as media opportunities. If Dak wanted a chance at the SB he would have gone the FA route but being the DC QB with all the opportunities it offers how does he not sign especially when there’s no accountability attached to the contract. There’s no one on the planet not taking that contract

Tell me people here who are willing to take less at their job. Meanwhile anyone who believes they would have signed anyone with any saved money are kidding themselves.

Mahomes did not take less. He took by far the largest deal in league history both for AAV and total value. The fact that others passed it doesn’t change that.
This is a pile of bologna.

This is like me playing video games and saying I need $10m instead of $9m. Id easily take $1m to do something fun I love and live a full life on the pay.

Second, Mahomes did take less. He signed a 10 year deal KNOWING he could make more with multiple deals over the same time period. AAV has nothing to do with what he COULD have made over the 10 years. It was even billed all over as a team friendly deal. It was, and is exactly that.

Every player should get what he can. I have no problem with that. I am sure every one of us would take the best salary we can get from our employer too. Jerry didn't have to agree to it. He didn't have to agree to a no trade clause either. It is not Dak's fault that Jerry did not have the courage to say no to Dak when the price got too high.

As for Mahomes, yes it was a huge contract when he took it but it was also for 10 years. Mahomes was willing to make a commitment to KC knowing that in 5 years his contract would look like a bargain for KC. At the time Dak insisted on a 4 year deal knowing he would be back to the table for more money in 4 years and that is exactly what he did. Again, Jerry could have and should have said "no" to both deals. When Dak asked for $40 million in 2021 I would have told him only for 6 years or more. And I never would have waived the No Trade clause. Jerry committed to Dak but Dak did not commit to Jerry. That was the mistake Jerry made.

Every deal is a risk. A player signs a deal and maybe he gets hurt. Or maybe he regresses and plays poorly. That is a risk the team takes but most teams project themselves. Jerry did not with Dak. Now he is stuck with a QB who look worse than he has at any point in his career. He can't trade him, and given the guaranteed money, he can't really cut him either.

lol and what did they do when Dak was on his rookie contract? Oh yea, absolutely nothing.

You don't play for the Cowboys if you want to win. You play to enjoy an easy going atmosphere and get as much money as possible Dak did exactly what he was supposed to do.

We've seen the EXACT same pattern play out over and over again. It was the exact same thing during Romo's era when we heard about Wade's camp cupcake.

Why would anyone take less to stay with the Cowboys? So Stephen and Jerry can pocket the difference?

If you told me that you're doubling my pay, but then everyone that reports to me that has a degree gets fired and I can only fill the spots with GED holders....I wouldnt take the double pay. It isnt worth it.

To apply this to Dak, losing is worth it as long as his bank account is fine. Hes not interested in winning.

How did that defense do against Green bay??
You can cherry pick one game if you want, but they finished as a top 5 unit on the season. They entered yesterday's game at #14, and I imagine they're going to drop significantly. Tell me, with a straight face that this years defense is comparable to last years.

9800+ messages...youve been around long enough to know that the players union requires they spend almost all of it, and you also know that unspent money cannot be pocketed by an owner.
