3rd or 4th rd comp pick for a. Smith hahahahahahah

And you think before you post?
I don’t see anyone paying him enough to get a high comp picks
That said if the offer was a 6th or 7th to trade I’d just wait for the comp pick
It’s a year later but we have lots of late round picks this year anyway

Just saw in on Good Morning Football that SEA wanted to trade for him but we said no. Wondering if they are thinking about a long term contract with him.

I very much doubt we have the money to give him a long contract. The reason for saying no, is probably due to a) not having anyone to replace him....the janitor could replace Poe and Griffin b) Seattle werent interested unless they got a basement bargain.

Smith is on a one year deal. We are going nowhere this year. Not trading him for anything decent is stupid. Beyond stupid. Now, if the offer was a 7th, who cares.

They need to make progress with players learning this defense even if they don't have enough overall talent now to be good.

Aldon Smith appears to understand Nolan's front 7 concepts better than most of the other players.

There is value to keeping that type of player. More value than a conditional 7th round pick.

They'll probably re-sign Smith for next year.

If they can find other players (Randy Gregory, etc.) at that position for next year and reduce Aldon Smith from 80+ percent of the snaps down to around 50% then he can be a good player in that role.

Still comes down to two thing. What was the offer? And can we afford his contract next year?

The compensatory pick would come at the end of the round, and would be lower than whatever they get in a trade for a pick in the same round.

It'd also be a year earlier, but I'm not convinced that's a selling point; it might be safer to take a pick in a later draft than this one.

I doubt a minuscule jump in the 5th round would be worth it. Keep in mind, the team attached to this discussion is the Seahawks; a surefire lock for the playoffs. We'd not only forfeit his play for the season, but any possibility of exclusive negotiations for extension before the start of free agency.

How in the heck is this even being criticized by anyone before knowing what the offer was? So they are just supposed to accept any offer no matter what just for the sake of making a trade? Some of you fans......sheesh.

Isn’t it the case it was assumed he was here for one year and was going to go somewhere else and get more money than we would pay ? In which case, and thing we got was more than getting nothing ? Unless Jerry is planning on overpaying another old guy... or thinks we are still going to win the the super Bowl this year and we will need him...either way...
