I’ve had fun playing Devil’s advocate in this thread but in all seriousness KJ needs to be cut and free to seek his fortune and continue his career elsewhere.
I don’t care if he is innocent or guilty of the crime or involved in the crime. Kids have to grow up pretty quickly once they hit the league. This squad has a history of trying to make rehabilitation miracles (moral and physical). Jerry and the front office should focus on things they can control-the culture of the team cannot be the yes parent. Accountability is something typically learned when you are young and is extremely hard to learn once you hit adulthood.
One of the first conversations you should have with young players with talented backgrounds and troubled pasts is that they are part of a collection of talent that is much bigger than any individual. You are free to make your own decisions, but the heads of this collection will think of all team members if a players’ professional or personal conduct seem to be negatively impact the rest of the squad.
He hung out with the wrong people, and from what little has leaked out likely had gotten into a physical altercation prior to the incident. From pre-draft reports his character concerns were bad enough that most teams took him off their boards. He also likely knew some of these individuals, so I would question the thought that he had no idea this was a potential outcome.
His lack of awareness and poor judgement seem to be a pattern going back to college. Which should mean the club releases him. But JJ does not give up on second round picks or reclamation projects this easily.
Well said. I agree. I'm disappointed in Jerry right now more than usual. I was hoping he would send a message to the team with how he handles KJ. And he did send a message. The message is the Cowboys are a mental health clinic, character rehabilitation, and physical rehabilitation center all before being a football team.
Take out all the moral and legal issues for a second. Let's talk straight football. No disrespect to the victim's family or his memory by discussing football at this time of trauma. Now with that out of the way, KJ is screwing the team. We were counting on him to be a player/starter for us. He put himself in a position where he might, or will, miss significant time due to suspension. If we can't count on him to be able to play on game day because of his lifestyle then cut him. Whether or not anyone agrees with his lifestyle, his lifestyle is making him not available for his employer. Fire him!
Far too long the Cowboys have been a psuedo mental health want-to-be clinic for knuckleheads that aren't serious about football. And we have suffered as fan due to Jerry's god complex of wanting to save everyone. Stop trying to save everyone and win football games and super bowls. Anyway, rant over.
