When did I agree Murray was faster ? His combine time never translated to the NFL playing field.
He was not viewed as a homerun threat back.

The Cowboys' actions by Not re-signing Murray to a long term contract, and allowing him to walk as a FA.. ..tells you what they were thinking.

They don't let players who they consider Core players walk out as FA. ..they get re-signed long term.

Eagles did the RB committee - under Chip Kelly ? Did they do the same " committee " when Shady McCoy led the NFL in rushing under Chip ?
So why could not Murray,? .... who they signed to a lucrative contract.

Murray made Zeke look like a chump. Zeke runs into guys. Murray ran around and past guys. He was also the better receiver. It all showed up on the field and the stats.

Murray was in his 5th year and on the downside when he went to Philly. Who knows, maybe they signed him to get him away from Dallas. It worked. McCoy was a hell of a back, chip would have been dumb not to feature him.

In their prime, Murray was the better back. And it played out in the best season for a back in Cowboys history.

LOL .. how was Murray on a " downslide " when he went to Philly ,... when he just came right off a Cowboys single season record ?

Who did it worked for ? Philly who gave him the big FA contract ? ... or Murray who was demoted and saw playing dwindle and more limited under Chip Kelly ?

Can we please talk Reality,.. instead of Science Fiction ? ....LOL :muttley:

Meredith is 3rd, Danny White 4th.

Don Perkins is 3rd.
It seems like Dandy Don is always forgotten. Probably because not too many here remember him playing. I don't even remember him playing but I sure remember him on MNF. What a great personality he was. Still miss him. And he played for some of the worse Cowboy teams ever in the beginning too. Danny was my guy. Always underrated by Cowboy fans. It was going to be hard for any QB come in and replace Roger. If only the catch never happened I think we would have won the SB that year. The Cowboys have been lucky when it came to QBs.

Good list.

I have a few questions, but overall, it's a very good list. I wouldn't put Romo above Dak. They both have won the same amount of playoff games (2), but Dak has thrown for 3+ TDs in a playoff game while Romo never threw for more than 2. Plus, last season, Dak finally led the team to an away playoff victory (and breaking a 30 year drought), something Romo was not able to accomplish.

PS: Leaving Dat Nguyen out at LB doesn't make sense.
I would probably put Danny White ahead of both of them being the further playoff runs he had. However, at the moment Romo and Dak have had similar careers to this point. I would plug in Eugene Lockhart at 4, Dat would probably be my 5th MLB.

I like the list, think you're spot on for a lot of these positions.

QB: Torn on this one but would put Danny White at 3 simply because he made it further in the playoffs. Romo and Dak have had a similar career trajectory, hopefully Dak can one day take over the #3 spot.
LT: Flip Tyron and Erik Williams
DE: I would take off Lawrence and plug in George Andrie. I don't know that Haley would be #1 but definitely on the list.
DT: Take Leon Lett off and replace with Jethro Pugh.
MLB: Add Eugene Lockhardt, drop Robert Jones. The last spot would go with Bob or Dat
OLB: DD Lewis before Henderson. I can't put Parsons at 2 yet, but would include him.
CB: Would put Terrance Newman ahead of Diggs. Diggs will probably end up being better, but think he has more to prove.
SS: I would slide Waters up to 3. I think Michael Downs could make a case over Brock Marion.

Dat Nguyen definitely deserves a spot! I never considered deion a cowboy or T.O. Woodson is probably the best and my favorite defensive Cowboy growing up! One thing about this list I'll say is that this franchise has been fortunate to have some great men be the face! On and off the field.

Thanks for Sharing ....

The reason why I've squeeze the choice options down to a very tight five is it presents more of a challenge.

Going top 10 makes it much more easier . too much easier to rank and press a list. Some deserving player is and has to be left off.
If anything maybe a " Honorable Mentioned " could be added.

With DEs vs blitzing LBs, having two position categories does help add the option choices between DE/OLB than lining both positions up as " Edge" for both DEs/OLBs
.
Not that you merge both categories of OLB/DE into one, but that you differentiate the on ball pass rush OLB’s with the true off ball OLBs.

A good example for this is DD Lewis:

He played 13 years for Dallas, multi-time SB champion, and would have a good shot at making this list. However, Ware who plays a completely different position than him takes up a spot on his top 5 so he ends up #6 or #7. Ware is far closer to Haley than he is Lewis as a positional player.

Pre wreck Erik was better. Post wreck was not.

Diggs is not on this list. Might be at some point, but not yet.

Ditto here.

Big E was the only OT that flat out dominated and frustrated two Hall of Famer DEs in Reggie White and Michael Strahan...

Would have been a sure fire HOF'er if not for the car accident

Judging these players from different decades is so difficult. But I think overall, the 1970s Cowboys offensive line is generally underrated. So was the defensive line.

But the only absolute I can think of is Bob Lily was the best defensive lineman the Cowboys ever had. Every other position there are arguments to be made for different guys, except maybe RB, but Lily in his prime in his era was one of the greatest ever. I would say the same thing about Butkus at LB on the Bears. In his prime he just played a different game. I know the argument for Nitschke. He was good too. So was Sam Huff. But no one played like Butkus before his knee injuries.

Emmitt was probably the best RB, although I am partial to Dorsett. Loved that guy but he was not a 3 down back really, and not the leader Emmitt was. The other RB I thought was great was Duane Thomas and if not for his loose screw he would have been much more revered by Cowboys fans.

100% on Lily, Butkus was great but the Bears had another Great come along.. Singletary might have a good claim to that also.

What was Dat Nyguen's accomplishment ?

When did he ever have a Pro Bowl or All pro year during his Cowboys career ? None.

I would have even placed Eugene Lockhart ahead of Dat Nyguen .

Dat was a high IQ player with a knack for coverages and INTs, but and had major durability issues ..he played well in spots, imo
.
what are you talking about? Dat Nyguen made the pro bowl 3 times
