Dallas Cowboys Are Treating Trey Lance as 'De Facto' Quarterback Pick

It would really make the trade a mystery then..of course if a QB falls (yeah i know what are the odds) that is worth it then no one would care.

I will go on record saying Jones will not get on the phones to arrange a trade using Lance if a quarterback did fall. That said, this possibility, albeit a tiny possibility, did heighten my expectation of tonight's draft--like a tiny blip on the heart monitor.

Well if you draft a kid in the 4th round, you get him for four years before you have to extend, we have Lance for one more before he needs an extension. Further, a 4th round makes just under $5MM for the ENTIRE length of that 4 year contract. We are paying Lance $5.3MM for one year.

Good thing its not OUR money. I just feel you can't find his Talent whatever you guys wanna call him, QB, RB, FB, in the 4th, So I feel it was worth the trade.

If he shows anything at all he will have significant offers. If he doesn’t he is a major question mark.

How in the WORLD can that be considered the same as someone you’re paying nothing to for the next 4-5 years?

If he shows amything why not just keep him.

Jimmy Johnson valued the position so much that he brought in Steve Walsh just after taking Aikman with the #1 pick......this FO is polar opposite to that

you would but thats not what the value question is, the question is would the value be better on using the 4th round pick on a rookie gamble that will be on a second contract or using it on Trey who will need a contract next year..again this isnt about wether Trey has potential its saying is this use of the 4th pick better than a gamble on a rookie with a rookie contract..and thats a good argument. Both situations are gambles which one was a better use of the pick on a gamble..

Yep nothing wrong with that, but he won’t be rookie contract cheap in that case.
