Stephen Smith doesn't sound like he is impressed with Trey Lance lol.
His performance was just so-so. If he'd hit on the end-zone fade or the deep sideline pass, that changes the narrative, but he was off on both of those throws. He also had three drops by receivers that hurt his possessions.

I thought he had a few really nice throws in the midrange area, and a couple that were close to being picks. He needs to work on his outlet passes to the flat because he was throwing them too high.

Lance may be the headliner here (cause he's bad), but I am more concerned about the DL depth (DT, lack of pass rushers) and the RB spot.

Guyton looked good and the OL should be fine. WR looks decent too, when we get Lamb and Cooks in there. But RB and DL is essentially WYSIWYG. DT as well is a major weakness. Mazi flashed good and bad. And we have nothing outside of him.
Well, our best DT (Odighizuwa) did not play and Mazi wasn't bad. He had one bad play from what I could tell, where he allowed the center to handle him one-on-one to help create a running lane.
25/41......188 yards....NO INTS....plus 5 drops.

Ran for 44 yards....while running for his life most of the day.

You can't tell me Dak wouldn't have panicked and took 10 sacks today.
Why does it have to be about Dak?

The drops didn't help. Lance missed some throws that he needed to make, but had some nice throws as well and showed that he can use his legs for yardage.

It seems with our fans you either suck or your great and there's no room for in between. He was in between.

They should leave that McMath kid in LA. Maybe he can make it in Hollywood as an actor, but he sure didn't look like an NFL WR. Two key drops. The last one cost the game, I'm. Not that preseason matters much.

A preseason game - or even 3 of them - will tell us almost nothing about what this team is going to be. May tell some things about the young players development. But PS games tell us nothing - zero - about what will happen in the regular season. If you like learning about our backups and practice squad players, its great.

It’s one of the many reasons why I don’t particularly care for PS games. No game planning, very small playbook, few starters, nothing on the line. They are truly exhibition games.
100%. In truth I would just call them "practices" or "exhibitions".

The coaches care very little about "winning". And as you noted...the players on the field may have a star on them, but 2/3 of the snaps are made by players who won't even be on the final roster.

The only thing you can do really do in watching is to evaluate backups and rookies.

It especially doesn’t matter if you lose.

What a ridiculous question. You cannot compare last year's team to the product on the field this preseason and expect to discern whether the team has improved. The preseason active roster is not the best players, so of course it will look inferior to last year's team. It's not comparing apples to apples.

Haven't seen the game so I won't hand out grades. But I really wonder what people expected. We're usually losing our pre season games. Whatever they are trying out during these weeks is not the final setup. And imo it doesn't mean much whether the opponents are playing their bench warmers or not.

The first regular season game will show where we stand. Until then it's just a more public training camp.

I can't speak to Zimmer's past, but todays defense did not "just let people score". They held the Rams out to the Ram's last ditch effort in the last few seconds of the game. In fact I'd like to know exactly how many plays it took for the Rams to score in the last 10 yards or
so. The Cowboys actually made a pretty good defensive stand till the very last play. Zim's defense played a good game overall.
I think some are overreacting out of disappointment. That same defense you're criticizing held the Rams to no TDs till the 4th down last ditch effort in the closing seconds.
If you weren't around for Zimmer the first time around there are reasons he was run out of town. I hope he leaves Al Harris alone because he was so focused on 'technique' that our CBs would be standing right next to WRs while they caught the ball because while the technique kept them next to the guy they never turned their heads to actually make a play. Zimmer defenses also were great at being aggressive until trying to hold a lead and then in the spirit of trying not to give up the big play the offense just marches down the field and scores like they did yesterday. So I hope he's learned some things in his time in Minnesota and that I am indeed overreacting.

No I'm not familiar with Zim's past. I can only comment on what I've seen so far, and I didn't see anything I had any problem with. Aside from the fact that we were looking at rookies, seconds and thirds in the game yesterday instead of starters, I liked what we saw a whole lot better than what we saw from DQ with Green Bay. But we'll see how it goes.

I answered yes to the poll because i see elements of the team that is better than last year. I think the OL will be better, especially in the middle and i think the LBs will be better. I think the secondary will be better once Diggs gets his legs under him. The DL, WR and TE will be what they were, not horrible but not improved. The Qb room will be the same as it was last year. The RB room is about the same as last year, both very meh..

Sure, call me whatever you want. I’ve seen every game the team has played since about 1977 (delayed or live) but yeah I’m just super casual about it.
I guess I’m too competitive. I played some form of organized sports into my late 50s. I’m 65 now. 3 of my 4 kids played college ball and 2 are coaches now. I do some scouting for the one coaching at the college level. We all approach the game with one purpose…beat the brakes off the team on the other side when you cross the line. People who’ve never played on a high level have no perception of this. It’s hard to watch after 28 years of the SOS. To each his own. Keep watching and pretending it’s all fine. When losing hurts more than winning feels good….thats when championships are achieved.

My feelings on the Cowboys won’t determine whether they win a title or not.
