MOBILE, Ala. — Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin said Monday that, like club owner Jerry Jones, he also believes a payoff could come for the Cowboys’ defense in their second full season in his scheme.
The Cowboys use a similar defense as Seattle, which just advanced to the Super Bowl on Sunday. Kiffin said that in Seahawks coach Pete Carroll’s first season in 2010, Seattle ranked 27th in the league in total defense. This season, they were No. 1.
“It takes time sometimes,” Kiffin said. “We were in a new system and we had some injuries. It was a combination of both. Still, were we excited about last year? No. But we’re going to get better. I can tell you that right now.”
Well, there’s nowhere to go but up for a Cowboys defense that finished last in the NFL in 2013.
And the Cowboys plan to give Kiffin one more chance in 2014.
