As time progresses, Romo will be physically beaten more and more. This isn't about his skill when healthy, but his aging body that takes longer to heal. Especially if the refs turn a blind eye on the types of extra-curricular activity by the defenders after the ball has been thrown.
I have watched the recording of the play where Romo was hurt and while this is whining, I believe the defender but his knee in Romo's back intentionally. They all know, and this is where the target is for Romo.
Like Aikman, his effectiveness will diminish rapidly, and as the seasons grind on, he will be hobbled more and more. He's tough, and this actually works against him.
The six game run gave us a taste of perhaps what will never be. Because they cannot protect him to a degree where other teams stop their onslaught on his back.
This team needs to draft a quarterback and in a hurry. Because there will be a day when he just cannot play any longer, and that day is coming rapidly.
I have been a detractor of Jerry for a long time. But to be fair, I also was a guy who defended Jerry after Jimmy left. It took Quincy to convince me this guy is as clueless as a Valley girl. I do not buy into the rebuilding of the line was his idea. I see Jerry as a GM who reacts to what he thinks he sees. Claiborne is a prime example of trying to fix an area that needed to be fixed at the defensive line. This exemplifies his ineptitude for me.
The managing of this team, and building it back from the depths reveals miscalculations, and flat ignorance of what was needed. Now, after Romo has been chewed up and spit out, but given stupid money, and Jones mismanaging the cap and paying people after their hey day instead of before, we see a team strapped by the cap. This screws with more than front line players. This screws with the next man up players as well.
Everything you see now that this GM is attempting is trying to close the gate after the horse has run off.
The tragedy is Romo will heal, put together some games and keep this team moving slowly toward the play-offs. But there will not be any cashing of gold there. Because teams will assault the weakest link, and that is Romo's back.
And we've seen the magnificent job the GM did in assuring the Cowboys were preparing for a starting quarterback with two back surgeries and evidence they might need a back-up start in his selection of Weeden.
Once again this is too little too late, and not enough to matter management.
You want a prediction?
Romo retires by the end of the 2015 season, and this team has no star under center, allows Murray to drift away, signs Dez for too much money and lives in the 6-10 to 8-8 range, which means your shot at getting a blue chip QB is limited.
