Dallas Cowboys Offseason 2016: Pass Rush Will Be A Liability For The Cowboys In 2016

Never know, the Cowboys could end up re-signing Hardy afterall. He's getting zero interest from other teams. I have to imagine he's coming cheap.

And it's not a pass rush league anymore. If you don't have the DB's to cut off the pick plays, that can't tackle on WR screens, your pass rush is going to do you little good.

Again, its about pressure. Period. Sacks are just one aspect.

Really, all we need to do is develop some additional blitz packages to get at least one LB free to the QB and we would have more
pressure. I hope Marinelli will adjust his scheme to create pressure even if he doesn't have a Demarcus Ware on the team.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I wish that were the case, but it is hard to see it. It is not like his value is going to drop any lower than it is right about now.

wasn't the pass rush actually better in 2014 than it was in 2015 with hardy ? That's how I seem to remember it.

The idea from this article that "Hardy leaves a big hole" isn't really substantiated when you look at the fact that 2015 with him was not a big improvement over 2104, if it was an improvement at all.

Ya. 2014, 28 sacks. 2015, 31 sacks. I guess Hardy gave us more pressure though.

Well, we had 31 sacks last year (pressures don't have the numbers on that aspect). We can't be any worse I guess.

Have to work with what we have and what we'll have coming out of the draft. There will be cuts from other teams all
the way to the first week of the season. I'm sure some vets will be cut that can be signed after the 1st week of the
season so that their contracts don't need to be guaranteed. We will have some options just like every year.
Injuries will likely kill us just like most every other team.

This draft is loaded with interior pass rushers and is light on edge rushers. Unfortunately for us, we decided to address the interior in free agency and left the edge a liability. Go figure.

exactly..............normally you fill in free agency what the draft is light in. Ergo, if the draft is full of inside pass rushers and no edge rushers, then you fill your edge rush needs through free agency and leave the interior for the draft.

That would require strategic thinking..................Garrett and co are not really big on that unfortunately.

The season is just getting started zoners. We are not even close to training camp yet. McClay found
Selvie sitting on his couch during training camp and he got 8 sacks that year. Will McClay will find
some edge rushers if we need them this summer and they won't cost boatloads of money. Be patient
and let the season play out. This ain't Madden...We can't afford "All Pros" at both DE positions.

You don't just find 8 sack guys sitting on the couch, yea it happened one time with Selvie but that was an anomaly.

If it is so easy to find guys off the street for chicken feed that can get 8 sacks, why are teams giving out $50 million dollar contracts in free agency for edge rushers?

Do you think all the teams in the league are just stupid? Why would teams spend millions and millions of dollars on pass rushers in free agency if they can just pluck somebody off the couch and plug them in to get 8 sacks?

You are right, this is not Madden and 9 times out of 10 you get exactly what you pay for. Now this does not mean you go totally crazy like the Commanders used to and sign every single free agent under the sun, but you dam well better have a more thought out plan than to get somebody off their couch in training camp.

Bottom line. Marinelli had 8-10 guys to rush the passer last year and he will have 8-10 guys to rush the passer this year.
Will the defense be any good. Who can tell at this point. They weren't supposed to be any good in 2014 or 2015 but,
they did pretty well. I put the failure of the 2015 season on injuries to the offense, Garrett and his coaches.

The pass rushers did pretty well in 2015?

Bro, you realize that we were the WORST TEAM IN THE NFL AT 4th QUARTER/OT SACKS last season.

When the game was on the line, the pass rush was MIA............and you think "they did pretty well"

I know how you feel but, the FO is only bargain shopping and it looks like older vets are not interested in our contracts any longer since Jerry is on a spending diet.
McClay will probably have a list of guys that could come in and try out in TC. Maybe lightening will strike twice in Oxnard...who knows?

They were on the field for most games all the 4th quarter and got tired. We didn't have an offense that could make first downs.

They are one pass rusher away from having a decent starting pass rush with no depth. I dont see the problem.

If virtually everybody else sees one thing and you see something else....................not a good sign, you might want to have that checked out.:D

Never mind that the draft hasn't occurred, free agency is still ongoing, trades are possible, and it's March.

Jeez.

I hear you bro, I just don't have much confidence in Garrett and co to "coach up" anybody.

What is frustrating as fans is that we can see exactly how this is all heading..........Romo playing hero ball because the D is crap and if Romo goes down, we don't win a single game.

If all of us fans can see it, why cant the team?

Jeez.

A. Rookie DEs hardly ever make a difference their first year and this is one of the worst drafts in recent years for DE, much more heavy in DT.
B. The free agent pool is already picked clean of starting DEs, most of what is left is rotational guys that did not put up very big numbers.
C. Highly doubtful a trade is made for a starting caliber DE since the team seems to want to build through the draft and trades require giving up picks.
D. Yes, it is March and if your DE position is laughable, there is not many options this late in the game to change it........see above.

I don't know, Denver showed everybody in the SuperBowl that if you can put the QB on his arse within 2-3 seconds of the snap, the routes the WRs run don't really matter that much anymore.

Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware have rings to prove it.

I think they call it the God complex. They just can admit or realize that their methods don't and can't work. I feel ya...

This team just wants to torture Romo, because they are winning bupkis without a pass rush.

Unfortunately, few will pay attention to the facts of your submission. Most here think we (The Cowboys) are hopeless without the
Madden approved 12-strong "all pro" defensive line. The remainder just think that the cancer (Hardy) is all we need to solve all our
defensive problems and win 3 SB's in a row. I haven't seen or heard about any Cowboy's coaches jumping off any bridges yet
though!

Interesting stat...

The 1992 Champion Cowboys were 12th in sacks.

The 1993 Champion Cowboys were 19th in sacks.

The 1995 Champion Cowboys were 14th in sacks.

Sacks are not an be-all, end-all.

What those defenses had over the current defense is far better secondary play.

Very valid point.

There should be at least one person here that reads it... won't "get-it" but should read it.
