Dallas have interest in Jason Taylor

I'd rather have Taylor than Ellis. Our D would be unstoppable with Taylor, Ware, and Spencer possibly on the field at the same time.

pass. it's time to unleash spencer, not bury him on the depth chart.

I agree.

We need to clear a road for the future and he is it. We don't need to add another high priced, high maintenance road block. We already have that in Greg Ellis.

Since we're selling out for a short SB run we might as well go with who is the better player today and that is clearly Taylor.

Where would Taylor play?

Who would we really give up to get him?

Saying Ellis sounds ridiculous. Why trade a player who got almost 13 sacks for his paltry cap cost for one who will certainly cost a great deal more and may not even give the same results in our scheme? Which is not the same scheme Miami runs.

Anybody that seriously tries to compare Ellis' performance with JT is patently ridiculous... The career-below 10 sack seasons of Ellis in nowhere compares to the monster that is Jason Taylor... The guy had one season above 10 sacks and he needed Wade and Ware for it... JT next to Ware and with Spencer would easily rack up 13 sacks, and besides that, his performance won't fade late in the season.

BTW, if one wants to argue durability, JT has never torn his achilles and won defensive player of the year 2 years ago, having one fo the most dominant seasons as a defensive player in years...

Ellis is not even close to the player JT is... n The only reason a person would prefer Ellis to Taylor is because of emotional sentiments attacheds to his career in Dallas... I'm tired of emoitonal sentiments that cause us to collapse 4 years in a row in December...

Really? At this stage? How many yrs you figure he has left?

Taylor and Ellis are at similar stages of their careers and both probably have 2-3 years left in them. I don't see longevity as an issue here - Jones is selling out for a short SB run with all these backloaded, high signing bonus contracts he is giving out. The only thing that will save us in 2010 is if there is no salary cap so we might as well try and win the SB now.

I would not sell out for anyone right now as there is no need to.

The cost associated with Taylor would far outweigh the benefits.

I don't believe he would take a friendly contract just to play here. He would be paid and therefore would have to justify it and that would come at Spencer's expense.

....and tie up a lot of money on Taylor when we have to resign TO, Hamlin, Canty and a bunch of others.............. I say not.

...and I agree, it's time to let Spencer have at it.

IMO/FWIW.

Owens, Hamlin, Canty OR Taylor.

It should be an easy decision if you aren't in "win now" mode.

JT expressed all sort of sentiments last year about how he was in a position late in his career that he can't go through a rebuilding process. JT wants to win now and that is the priority in his career. How does anybody know JT isn't willing to play for less money with a contender?

Especially considering his brother-in-law is now in Dallas...

To me, it's simply not a position of great need. Unless he wants to play for peanuts, we'd be better off getting TO, Hamlin and Canty signed. I'd be willing to bet, he is NOT willing to play for peanuts.

If bringing in Taylor has an adverse affect on getting those guys signed, it would not be prudent IMO.

He's not 'way' better than Greg Ellis either, as someone else pointed out. We have to see what Spencer can do as well.

Nothing against Taylor, he's a very good player, the timing, if nothing else, is not right.......

BTW, if you think Greg is disgruntled now, just wait till you send him on a plane to a backwater team like Miami. He could sabotage the trade by not showing up.

I'd take Taylor over Hamlin and Canty. If not for the black hole that is our WRs #2-6 I'd probably take Taylor over TO, too. For our team right now since we have Ware, TO would fill a bigger role.

I think of Taylor as our version of Strahan. The Giants' main pass rusher is Osi but they don't beat the Pats or us without Strahan.

Who knows what Taylor's priorities are right now in his football career. He would definitely need to restructure before coming here as we cannot afford his current contract.

That would be a problem and the only way a deal makes sense is if it is a swap of Ellis for Taylor. Maybe BP would be willing to throw in some extra bucks to Ellis to make the deal work.

Yep-if Strahan stayed healthy in '06, who knows how far the Giants would have gone.

It isn't just his on the field abilities, but he's also a massive voice on the sidelines and in their locker room.

There's no room for Taylor. If we make a trade it's for a WR. If not for that, we won't trade at all.

Player for player trades are very rare and that is the only way we would be interested in the deal as there would be no point in having both Taylor and Ellis when we also have Ware, Spencer and Carpenter who can play OLB. That alone makes the deal very, very unlikely.

I do think we are a much better team with Taylor instead of Ellis but the trade has less than a 1% chance of actually happening.
