one of Jerry's biggest regrets has to be letting Sean leave.

Jerry give them Dak and Zeke. :muttley:

I mean even if he is not..again if the owner doesnt change, what is a diferent handicapped HC going to do? We are gonna have the same problem minus the compensation we gave up. MM and Payton have very similar history as far as thier coaching success goes..what will be said when Payton all the sudden cant coach once he gets here?

Despite all the coaching changes and player acquisitions nothing changes with the Cowboys. A lot of the same problems we had under Garrett we’re having under McCarthy. Nothing will change unless Jerry relinquishes his GM duties to someone else and that will never happen.

one of Jerry's biggest regrets has to be letting Sean leave.

No one knew Sean Payton would end up being a great head coach and Drew Brees would end up a Hall of Fame QB. That became a perfect marriage and it led to success in New Orleans but only one SB. I’m sure Washington is regretting letting Sean McVay go. Jerry thought Jason Garrett would be another Sean Payton and it didn’t happen. Jerry would have to step down as GM for a head coaching move to work. As long as Jerry is making all the moves he will reign supreme over every head coach he hires.

Lol. No way. 3rd round pick. Not giving up 1st or 2nd. We need picks - just wait a year and get him free

He has three years on his contract and Saints retain his rights.

Payton, 58, has three years remaining on his deal with the Saints after signing his latest extension in 2019. So, New Orleans would maintain his rights if he decides to return to coaching -- and could require compensation if he wants to coach for another team.

Just like Jerry. Either pick a coach too early (Garrett, Moore, Campo, Gailey) or pick them too late (Parcells, Phillips, McCarthy, Payton?)
Give them (DLaw, Zeke, Amari and C. Williams) but no draft picks or move on to find the next hot coordinator.

Jerry the GM is not the problem. Jerry the owner is. Jerry undermines his coaches. The players know they can go over the coach to Jerry to get team discipline reversed or that Jerry will enable them with things like babysitter bodyguards to get them to practice on time.

Hypothetical HC change from McCarthy to Payton.

We know it's the hottest news ticket on the wire now,

What really would change with Payton that was different than McCarthy ?
Here's some thoughts and questions i had:

1) Both HC have Super Bowl winning resume and credentials,

2) Both considered well regarded offensive minds

3) Both have had access to QB Hall of Famers – en route to SB wins

4) Payton finally solved his DC issue with Dennis Allen- while McCarthy only solved it with
hired help of DC Dan Quinn; prior to Quinn

5) Will this kind of swirling rumor of Payton, actually bring out the best in McCarthy in '22 ?

6) Would Payton demand more control of the team operations with Cowboys team that
what McCarthy was allowed to have ?

7) Could the strong willed Payton being able to work with Will McClay, etc. ?

8) What could Payton offer for Dak and Zeke that was different from McCarthy/Kellen ?

9) Has to be 100% SB or bust for McCarthy now – with Payton cloud lingering over his head all year

10) What are McCarthy’s pluses and minuses vs Payton’s plus and minuses ?

11) Would Payton be allowed to hand pick his own asst. coaches/coordinators/Defense ?

If we're going to trade for a retired coach, at least consider Rich Kotite. If we trade Dak for him we can clear a huge amount of cap space and get ourselves a stud coach to keep us competitive for at least a decade. He's available, he's competent, and most of all he's really good at clock management. At least consider it.

Sean for Dak and we start fresh

Yeah he would love taking over a team with no QB. lol That’s the main reason he’s not returning to New Orleans they don’t have a QB. Get real! One season without Drew Brees was enough for him.

Only if Bruce Coslet comes in as OC.

LOL, you all just assume Payton will agree to be Jerry's puppet. That is insane. He is from the Parcells' coaching tree and he is used to having control just like in NO.... no way he agrees without this control. Jerry will not agree to it. Case is mute.

Sean Payton won’t have any more success in Dallas than Bill Parcells did. The Cowboys had both Parcells and Payton on staff and only made the playoffs once with that combo. Sean Payton left after the 05 season. Let’s face it Sean Payton wouldn’t have had near the success in New Orleans if he didn’t have a Hall of Fame QB. If some of you really believe Dak isn’t a good QB bringing in Sean Payton isn’t going to do any good.

His team is 70 mill over the cap...Dak taking a huge paycut in that trade...
