Maybe... But if they are all gone I don't see why we can't win it all by RBBC? It's the patriot way. It can work for us.

Patriots run a completely different offense than us.

Actually I don't think the Patriots are a RBBC team by design, they just rely on the back that isn't in the doghouse that week. Ridley as supposed to be their guy but he fumbled that away; Gray had the job and was late to practice. The team preferred to give the majority of their carries to one back. Regardless, the Patriots were not nearly as successful running the ball as us so that shouldn't be a comparasion.

Lots of different opinions... I still think it's going to be CB in the 1st... The team thinks it got RB, DE,DT and LB covered... Jerry is stewing right now because Carr won't take a paycut... Clay-bust is hurt...

I do believe you have a point with that idea. To make such a choice even more likely, the CBs that are going to be available in round one should be excellent, both in talent and in numbers. It's highly likely that Gurley and Gordon will both be unavailable by our turn at #27. Cornerback will be a position of great need, especially since Carr's status is questionable and Clayborne may be physically indisposed. A CB pick at #27 is quite probable.

The pick is BPA, if that is CB, so be it...if it is RB, so be it. If a player the team is targetting falls to a spot where we can trade up at good value then so be it. If we have no value at our spot, we trade down. This is the position the team will take no matter what.

On another note...the team DOES NOT feel they have RB covered, if they felt this way then they wouldn't have invited every possible back to Dallas for a visit. The team WILL draft a back early; don't let the pocket change guaranteed to McFadden/Williams fool you.

Hey bud, it has been too long! I've lurked, just haven't really posted. :D

I used to spend all my free time here, but I now spend a lot of time on an OKC Thunder forum. Still lurking though and now that the Thunder's season is about to be over (ugh those blasted injuries to KD and Ibaka!), I'll probably post here more often again!

I'm glad we'll be seeing you more old friend. :)

It is wisest for the Cowboys to draft BPA since they have no real pressing need, with emphasis on a CB prospect before too late.

Jay Ajayi is a bust in the making.

Agree with the first part. I haven't seen any film on Ajayi. Why do you think he will be a bust?

***snip***

Thats why I want a flexible draft plan. Come in with a good game plan, but be ready to adjust on the fly.

Absolutely. It's almost always a dynamic process. Lately we have drafted well. I believe they ARE planning for contingencies better and there is less confusion. Even with that, there is going to be some argument among the guys about who to take when their player is suddenly gone.

RBBC Patriots

4 running backs = 1,424 yards @ 339 carries
Only one RB was under 4 yards per carry... Other three were over 4... Two of them were almost at 5 yards per carry

DeMarco Murray

1,845 yards @ 392 carries
4.7 average

Average out the missing yards then you end up with 11 yards per game difference.

Completely difference offense? And yet yards are closer than you think.... Even with Demarco's anomaly year.

This is one of the reasons to be so careful about taking a RB high. My thoughts are you can get a composite back out of your three backs who are close are even better that one RB. It's cheaper and easier to obtain that talent as well. Also you are not putting all your eggs in one basket.

There's a significant dropoff after Gurley and Gordon are unavailable. Let's not assume my heart is set upon making CB our only option in the first round, OK? I don't agree that the team has RB covered but DO agree that the possibility of drafting a CB at #27 will be strongly considered. OF COURSE drafting a RB is destined to be a priority. I have no illusions that we have replaced Murray satisfactorily, nor do I think the staff thinks that either. I'm betting RB will be addressed in the 2nd round, however.

Agreed.

And.... I am giving DMC a chance.
I say he is resurrected.
A career that was sent to nfl black hole to NEVER get started.

If I'm him... And the Dallas cowboys pick me up.... I am running "out of my mind"

Then you got Randle and Williams. We are not devoid of talent at RB.

I think as much as the Cowboys leaned on the running game this past season it would be foolish not to replace Murray with the best back possible. I fully expect the Cowboys to take RB any where’s from the 1st to the 3rd rd of this draft.

Cowboys offense had over 2300 total rushing yards averaging 4.6
Patriots had over 1700 rushing yards averaging 3.9

Regardless, the point is that the Patriots are not a RBBC team by design, it just happened. Regardless, why compare the Cowboys to a team that was in the bottom half of the league in rushing? Do we want those results? We should compare against teams who had similar success running the ball and the majority of those teams used primarily one back and/or a rushing QB.

Not sure I understand this X

In free agency a WR, CB or Pass Rusher is more expensive than a 4-3 LB or RB.

RB Murray begged for 8M per year vs WR Dez turned down 12M per year

Pass Rusher Ware got 3 years 30M with most of it guaranteed after coming off a bad year and being over 30 while RB Murray broke records and at age 26 only got 8M per.

When they use a 1st round pick on a player, they get less value if they take the less expensive type player like a RB or 4-3 LB. Obviously, they might be getting the best RB vs the 6th pass rusher late in the 1st, but you still expect a 1st round pick to be a quality starter and replace the need for an expensive veteran at one spot on the 53

Summary: If I were drafting a RB I would see him as preventing me from signing a free agent for around 8M per; however, if I draft a pass rusher I would see him as preventing me from signing a free agent at 12M+ per..

I agree entirely but it still doesn't give you a reason to reach for any player. Play your board and let the chips fall as they may. If that DE pick doesn't pan out in two years then you are still spending that 13M plus a wasted pick.

I can take this another step and say that elite RBs in their prime rarely see the market. I'm talking AP, Lynch, McCoy, Charles and even Forte...on the other hand, solid defensive ends do see the market more often because teams don't wanna pay them.

No doubt on the need to stay with BPA; however, if my 20th ranked player is a 4-3 LB and my 21 ranked player is a Pass Rusher, I would likely lean towards the pass rusher.

These are not the Cowboys of old. Management of late is acting like a winning organization. And those guys build from inside out. First round is for lineman, defense or offense. They won't touch a RB in the first round. No way. Those Jerry days are long gone.

#1 DT or DE
#2 CB or LB
#3 RB or depth

They can have Langford from Michigan state in the 3rd and he'll be ROY.

Why waste a visit on backs graded as first round picks though?

The team will play it's board.
